A new layout, a new thread and I'm ashamed to be yet another one of those people who says "a new layout with no name" well I simply couldn't hold off the first post showing the start of progress any longer, those people who have been following the thread about the O gauge stock on tour would have known this thread was inevitable and will know the stock which I currently posess.
Anyways the layout as I said is not named as yet so suggestions are welcome. So to actual progress, and well since the 00 was taken up the whole loft has been insulated making it more habitable up there and the general outline of a plan has been decided in my mind which will be unveiled as I build, for now the first part of the layout of which I have started, the "Cob" basically it will eventually be a slate causeway over a beach, for now it's just a wooded underframe with track laid loosely on it, a trip to Wales to get proper slate for it will have to be undertaken in the next few weeks/months but for now it's an unsightly pile of wooden block glued solidly together, and for some photos:

Re: Pedanticmongrel's New O Gauge Layout
Is that a "Mr Tom Wagon" build there I see?!
Looking good, can't wait to see that cob finished, hopefully will be as iconic as the Cym-Lydia Viaduct was.
As for name suggestions: Any vague guidelines on that?

Hey there Pedantic.
Can't wait to see that causeway with some proper welsh slate on it. it'll look amazing,
Oh and one thing that beach is missing, is the sand
What about Llys Maelgwyn? (Llys means court, and i think maelgwyn was some sort of lord or something, Back in the day.)
Thanks, Stew.

Re: Pedanticmongrel's New O Gauge Layout
hey dan, how about doing a competition to get the name for your layout? get other members to make up names and see which you think is the best. how about Llanmadog? or Pant-Y-Benny (this translates as i well in the hollow, im not sure if it is a well or not, ill look it up)

Re: Pedanticmongrel's New O Gauge Layout
Thanks fort the suggestions guys, keep them coming, you just know when a name feels right for a layout and none of them have yet, btw I like the names that mean something pefectly innocent in Welsh, like Cwm Lydia (Lydia Valley) but sound like something rude or silly in English.

I see that you like the EX-Taff Vale Van too. Your layout looks very promising.

Re: Pedanticmongrel's New O Gauge Layout
From now on I'll try and restrict the "on tour" thread to visits made by my stock to other layouts, all other developments will come on this thread.ceejaydee wrote:Aye, that's the oneStewart Gethin wrote:Which other thread are you talking about? Re: Pedanticmongrel's New O Gauge Layout
New loco alert, just bought a 56xx!
and track laying has started currently there is a single line from the cob down one side of the loft, also the engine sheds kits to build the engine shed has arrived, when i get around to putting them together I'll have a shed around 140cm long with 2 roads, perfect for the expanding loco collection!
