Paxton Hill Mid 80's N Gauge

I thought I'd start a new thread because my old one had numerous plans and became misguided so I scrapped it.

I have decided (as a result of my horrific track laying and wiring) to order a new baseboard and track laid from The Goods Yard. The cost was well worth the quality that they put into it.

I ordered it a few weeks ago so it won't be with me for a while, so for now I'm sharing my ideas here.

The plan is as follows:



The exact dimensions are 1510x700 to allow for wider curves than I currently have. I hope to have a raised 'underpass' area above the single loop and part of the station platforms for a street scene, with low relief buildings on one side and steps to the lower station platform, with the station out of view of the layout scene. I plan to use a 3 road Locomotive Works along with a fuelling point. There are also 2 stabling points to the side. I have added in a siding to cater for future expansion, but for now it will be a loading area for ICI factory. I hope to base it in the Midlands area and run some passenger services along with locos being serviced etc. It will be DCC operated. I plan eventually to add a shelf layout into it with a much larger ICI facility or possibly a fuel depot.

Hi Ryan looks good bet it was not cheap i considered ordering from them till i saw the prices but you pay for quality.
Why have you decided to base it in the Midlands? as your other layout was NSE.

I kinda had the feeling to go with a more industrial setting, and although I love the south of england as a setting, I feel that the Midlands area or there abouts will let me fit in my ICI depot which I fancied after picking up both white and black ICI tanks

Ogh i see so you will be getting rid of Lion then?

I don't normally like to ask about how much people pay for something, as it's none of my business, but do you mind me asking how much the delivery charge will be? We get charged eye-watering amounts for large heavy stuff from down south. Delivery of a 5x3 baseboard with track already laid would cost well into three figures here, I imagine you're in a similar situation.

Update today, layout is ready for dispatch! Just have to wait for pay day on friday and it'll be on its way!

Can't decide where to base it now, I had thought midlands but I love the atmosphere of 80s London layouts so I might go with that.

Looks like the guys at TGY have done an outstanding job can't wait for it to arrive.

Hi Brian

Had you considered splitting it diagonally with an embanked road and having half in London and half in the Midlands? They'e both only opposite ends of the same track.

Thats a good idea, I never thought of that Mac. And Richard, I want to have focus kind of on the depot area so I want to capture the atmosphere of london in it somehow. DCC wiring still needs to be installed so it'll be 2 weeks or so before I get it

So am i, you got rid of that old heap Lion yet? or are you keeping it as a loco out of service on your depot? Will your 2 vac's feature on your new layout or will you be only having super detailed loco's like Farish 24,37,47 and 150? Do not blame if you do the Farish 50 needs a lot of work to get up to scratch as does some of thier older models.Have you decided on the Reigon/area yet?

I've decided on london. I've spoken to mercig studios and I've Decided to go with a fully detailed and weathered class 50 numbered to ark royal. Lion is a work in progress!

Hi Ryan thats excellent news you can't go wrong with 35 What livery you having her in, Large Logo, Original NSE or revised NSE? .Do not forget if you want her with the large crests you can only have her in large logo Livery or Original NSE.If you have 35 in ONSE do not forget the 35 in black above the headlight if you want any pics for this livery just pm me your address as i have tons that i had to reject from main album as too many
