Hi there. Yes I'm currently getting a tan on my hols in sunny South Wales - or is that rust - yes, actually it's rust!

Work continues on Old Warren. After seeing the dummy point motors on Champion's & NSE Daz's layouts I've now started scratch-building some for Old Warren. This did however throw up a problem in that there wasn't enough space between the track and the fencing at the front of the layout, so the wooden fencing has all been ripped up and put aside. I have now added extra ballast to the front of the outer loop which I have left to dry while on holiday, and started constructing a post & wire fence in place of the old wooden fence. To acheive this I have salvaged the posts from my Ratio fencing, drilled 3 small holes in each post to feed fuse wire through. When I get home and start installing the new fencing I will add some photos. I'll have several of the point motors to make up too so this should keep me occupied for a while between downloading all my photos and videos from the holiday.

Ah good, that'll be something to look forward to seeing then. More stuff to put me to shame lol :D
Sunny South Wales eh? Lived there for 5 years down in Carmarthenshire, was definitely more sunny than it is oop north here!!!

Your layout looks great and the detail is fantastic!

Do you know Stuart, I have already been giving this idea some thought! After seeing an article in the N Gauge Journal about adding lights to the Tomytec coaches, I thought about adding lights to my vehicles via fibre optics. It wouldn't actually be that difficult to do - one white & one red LED under the motorway board with the optics fed through holes in the board under the vehicles.
I have been fitting lights to my n gauge cars using fibre optics, the roads look much better in the dark with the cars headlights on. :D

I've also made emergency vehicles with flashing lights! - http://www.weaseltonvillage.weebly.com/ ... icles.html

Brilliant! Just the effect I aim to acheive. Your flashing lights idea could also be adapted for my roadworks scene using one of the flashing tail lamp kits for the cone beacons and your system for the plant machinery. My relatives where I have been staying have one of those fibre optic UFO things in one of the bedrooms which are quite cheap so might get one of those and remove the fibre optics off it to use for my vehicle lights. The motorway is on a separate board so will have its own electrical supply (LEDs under the board with a self-contained 9V battery supply) to supply the lighting for the vehicles.

I've now got half of the new fencing along the front finished and weathered. Hopefully I'll get the remainder done next week in between sorting through all my holiday snaps.

This is the first of the dummy point motors, before painting. I've also got to finish the wires to this.

Wow! Just wow!

I can't believe how long it has been since I last commented on this wonderful layout. You have wasted no time in ploughing on with updates. The small details look terrific as does the new stock. I'm particularly pleased how the lighting looks and that you have finally managed to install proper colour light signals. It just improves the atmosphere of the layout no end.

I could go on, but I feel the need to just say hi, as it has been a joy to catch up on the progress of this one.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you manage to implement the lights in the cars as ac-train-611's idea looks great.

Cheers,

Stuart

Thanks for all the kind comments. Stu it's good to have you back with us and hope things are better for you now. Not much progress to report at the moment as I have not spent much time on the layout due to starting 3 day weeks at work and seeing some rail-tours recently. The fence is nearly done and I've had to devote a bit of time dusting the layout and cleaning the track (again!). I have an FGW 57 coming next week offered for a bargain price which will become 57601, in readiness for my rail-tour coaches.
