Re: Edgware GN,
Nice jobs - are they transfers (if so whose?) or bow-pen?
Re: Edgware GN,
G'Day Gents
Hi Ex Pat. They are transfers, made by 'Modelmaster' for the A4,W1 and B17, the B17's lining is going to be next in line for an upgrade, I've made a start, removing the old (Horrible) lining a cleaning up the area, the black is now drying. A lining pen may get involved soon.

Thank you for the comment Josh, I think it's cute because it's Ugly.
Keeping busy even though the weather has now hit the 40's C, so cooking in the shed, I've only been going out there first thing in the morning. A tender drive 'Flying Scotsman from the 80/90's has been renamed 'Great Northern'. Another A1 has also taken to the rails, 4474 'Victor Wild' ( awaiting nameplates) has been built around a modern Pacific chassis, one of four that I picked up a few years ago for 12 pounds, I have been slowly buying the bits needed off of E-Bay, some even had motors. Now what do I do with the other three ??
I'm having a few problems with my computer, so we'll se what happens.

Yep, the computer crashed 'Big Time' a friend fixed it for me, but everything had to be wiped and formatted, so at least I now have Windows 10, I managed to save all my pictures to a stick.
In the meantime, I did a bit more work on the 'Tourist' coach, it's painted and a good runner.
Started another J3, ( you must be sick of these), it'll be my last J3, I must have a least 5, and there is still the J5 to go. The J3 has a solid brass runningplate, which I found in a box of rubbish, I tried it on a couple of different chassis, before fitting it to a Wrenn R1 chassis, at least it'll have a bit of weight.

I often wonder about your box of rubbish - it must be an absolute treasure trove - any chance of a photo please?manna wrote:G'Day Gents
which I found in a box of rubbish,
Perhaps we should start a "Box of Rubbish" thread?!
Interesting cab roof formation process.
Re: Edgware GN, Another J3
manna. I ordered a steam crane from Oxford Rail in February 2020 due delivery October 2020. They now say delivery will be September 2021.
The speed you are making your excellent models I should have asked you to make my steam crane.

Hi Ex-Pat, I say a box of 'Rubbish' it's really a couple of small boxes of 'Model Railway' junk, I'll see what I can do with a photo.
The GN cabs I build, always start off square, with the inside of the cab corners filled, then it's time to file to shape.
Steam cranes, I haven't built one of those yet

Hi Glencairn, I probably could build 'One' quicker, but to build them on industrial scale, takes a lot longer, and 'Covid' will have slowed things down a lot, Bachmann, have taken an age to do the revamped V2, and we still haven't seen that yet, what's it been now 3 years, not knocking anyone, as I won't be buying one.
I might have a go at 'Tarting' up my ancient Dublo breakdown !
The Streamlined B17 has finally had it's smokebox lining fitted, looks so much better. Plus another view on how I build GN cabs.

Re: Edgware GN, Another J3
Hi manna,
Your December 14 post very interesting, especially the shot of the new J3. Having an interest in chimney construction myself, I found yours of particular interest. Where did the bits for the top and the saddle come from?

Hi Firefly16, The chimney is a one piece turning ( it's wrong) I fitted a bit of Perspex venetian blind winder into a electric drill, and gently turned the chimney shape using a 1/4" chisel & assorted small files, this chimney will be replaced with a better shaped one, this one, is to high at the base and to narrow.

G'Day Gents.
Happy New Year to everybody.
Busy time over Christmas, so not a lot happening, went away for a week with the Caravan, hottest day 36c, so not to bad, back home now, managed to take a few pictures of my work area and storage draws/boxes, I have a load of Ferrio Roche containers, being fairly big and see through they are ideal for storage, I also have a draw system next to my workbench, but things sometimes drift to the back and get forgotten.
More work in the J3, handrail fitted and a coat of paint.

Re: Edgware GN, Another J3
Good grief - those drawers and trays etc. are even more extensive than I imagined. I can mislay stuff in far less space than that!
Yes, it's easy to forget things (which is a bonus when you suddenly realise you've got them), but how often do you know for a fact that you've got a specific item but have to give up looking for it, only for it to turn up a day or two later?
The J3 body looks ready-weathered - I always look forward to the Christening with numbers.
