Hey I'm Stewart.

I've had a layout in my attic conversion for quite some time now, perhaps pushing about 7 years, and the track has been laid permenantly and has had the same stock running around it for yoinks...
My aim is to improve the running of it, and the looks as now, I am that much more capable(ish) to add stuff to it.

The layout is 8 by 4 in size, multi level, it has been taken out of a hornby track plans book from the 80's(?) That is my Dads.

You measure inclines as such.....

measure the height which you wish to traverse eg 5 cm
measure the distance required to achieve this height eg 500 cm

therfore the incline is 1:100.

I have painted this hill now. but it still needs alot of improvement, and i've also got to make a scratchbuilt tunnel mouth for one end of the tunnel :/

Thanks nice to have some feedback, really gives you a urge to get up there and do some more . i'm hoping to turn the whole side of that long straight incline into a hill, its currently a working progress.

By the way i got the plan for this layout out of a old hornby layouts book. (Hornby Railways Track Plans 3rd Edition) but it has been edited to how i wanted it, with a little help of dad and some of his old skool wagons etc.

Hi Stew yeagh that is a nice layout, would you care to list your locos i m not a kettle fan at all but i can see an A4 in the pics.Even a die hard diesel crank like me can tell an A4
Will watch this as it progresse's you have made a cracking start.Is that the Peco goods shed i spy? I bulit one of theese a few years back.

Yeah, it is a peco goods shed. i also built it ages back the a4 is "mallard" but its from a set, not single from hornby so the numbering is wrong, but could easily be changed with a new number plate etc, possibly a new paintjob as it's too dark. i'm not too keen on these big steam loco's but i'm still interested to see if i can get a decent one to do a "special" on this layout. to replace my A4. i've got some more pictures of all my stock/loco's getting uploaded now.

Thanks, i'm not saying that this layout is going to fly ahead, why? because my money is very limited. but scatter etc is really cheap, and most of the stuff i can find lying around my house ( my dad is a qualified electrician and plumber, my mum runs a local girl guides unit. so she has loaaaads of stuff around the place that she's never touched.)
Its just locomotives and rolling stock that i need to spend alot on, as you can see from the pictures, my rolling stock arent in the best of nick. (BUT ON THE GOOD SIDE, it is the school holidays, so i can get down to some serious modelling)

By the way, i think i forgot to mention this earlier, my layout is more based around the industrial with coal, steel etc getting shipped around, will probably only have 1 decent rake of double bogied carriges where i will hopefully have like 3,4 times that in goods.

Anyone got a hopper that opens on the bottom, (its green in the pictures and its between the car transporter and grey hopper) i could do with buying another couple of these to go with my drop. (pictured by the mountain)

Hi Stew do not worry about your locos and rolling stock we all have to start somewhere and that is where Birthdays and Christmas comes in .Seriously mate when i started i had 1 duff, now ive got several 50;s one with sound and a dmu.I think you need to decide what you realy like in the way of locos and rolling stock and go for it.

Hi Ian do not worry about your locos and rolling stock we all have to start somewhere and that is where Birthdays and Christmas comes in .Seriously mate when i started i had several 50;s one with sound and a dmu, now I have decent trains and no 'midland region reject boxes', I think you need to decide what you realy like in the way of locos and rolling stock and go for it.
