Quick update: Ivatt 41306's gearbox is now fitted and she is running in as we speak.

Another update on general proceedings:

Not happy with ABC gears, after 20 minutes of running, the gearbox in the Ivatt ran so hot the coils welded themselves to the field magnets and she will go no futher! So apart she comes again!

Next, West Lulworth will be recieving some new motive power in the form of a brand new Heljan class 33. Still awaiting transfers and nameplates, she is in line to either become D6508 "Eastleigh" in her 90's guise, or D6515 "Stan Symes" in her current guise at 71D.

Also, an SR Pillbox brake has arrived, which I am hoping to build into a MoS "Express Brake Van" (essentially just a fitted Pillbox that were eventually run on the midland region).

And finally an SR 12T Box van, and an SR Cattle wagon.

Lastly, Pedanticmongrel will be getting a GWR Mogo van in the next few weeks!

Watch this space.

A few photos from this evening, dry enough to get some running in!

Firstly, Q1 C1 takes a parcels train down to West Lulworth.

At Winfrith Newburgh, the Q1 passes newly painted 4575 class 5526 on the GWR goods

Next, Castle Class 5043 "Earl of Mount Edgecombe" brings a down passenger train round the garden

Next a few stills from inside the house, B4 Alderney poses for the cameras

and, 5043, 5526 and 85 awaiting their next turn

Cheers guys, hope to get a couple more this evening of Dans 42xx, probably some daytime photos. The weather looks ok, not great but better than yesterday in any case!

Naturally the downside of a garden layout is that rain stops play, and also causes a gargantuan earth leak which reduces the amount of current we can give to the locos, and it starts to become a hinderance when trains reach the bottom of the garden which is the furthest point to the power source, as well as being the lowest point on the railway. This has further limitations for Heljan locomotives which, without a DCC chip, draw up to 3 amps which is more than the fair share of the current on the line. Oh yes, best get some photos of that too!

Other problem we had with rain is flooding outside one of the tunnels, nothing a couple of drain holes can't solve though!

More photos, you lucky people:

Today the weather stayed dry, and so lots of trains were run. 5043 and C1 undertook most of the services today under the named trains of "Shakespeare Express", "The Red Dragon", "The Sussex Downsman" and "The Sunny South Express". Meanwhile 5526 operated some passenger trains using Dans Toplights, but mostly goods trains. Lastly, another friend arrived mid afternoon and operated Jinty 47352 mainly shunting.

In other news, Heljan class 33 33008 untertook some test runs today, runs a treat! The transfers also arrived this morning, but I was not around to receive them. Photos will go up when the numbers are on.

In the meantime:

Cracking photos Tom; I love the shots of 47352. The light seems to make the photos seem a little more atmospheric. I'm glad the weather was dry for the running session (something you wouldn't have been doing today).

Any ideas how the 9f is coming along?

Cheers,

Stuart

The 9F is still in my loft, it will go to Darren Sherwood, who is going to build it when my Hall and 1361 are back from being painted, they went away yesterday so the 9F should be away in the next few weeks.

Excellent video. Some good news, thanks to persuasion from Dan, I have submitted some of the photos to Model Rail magazine who are interested in an article on night photos. So hopefully (depending on my writing skills!) something should come of this in the next few issues!

Will keep you posted!

In other news, Heljan 33 33008 was fitted with a skate and tested on the layout on Saturday, a few teething problems but runs well. About 90% of the way with it. She is numbered and the roof repainted to a more prototypical colour, awaiting nameplates. Hope to see her running properly by the next running session which will probably be in a few months!

Lastly, work progresses on the Ivatt 2 to remove the gearbox from the axle ready to send it back to ABC for looking at. This is proving quite difficult as the grub screw is stuck!

Over and out for now!
