This layout looks really big and interesting, lots of space for loads of trains whizzing around at once. One thing I must add, as I did with another layout is that adding hills will make it much better, I know you might not have got to that stage, but flat layouts sometimes seem more unrealistic are more train set than model railway.

Hi John
What type of ballast did you use?? Can you make a track plan of the layout?
Also, are those hornby surface mounted point motors i can see??

Hi
Thanks for the comments Hulldude15 hopefully will be adding hills etc.
as I progress.
Hobby boy the ballast is bird grit from Wilkinsons which I'm sure was mentioned on this forum.
You are correct about the points motors there is also some under layout points motors as well.
Will try and draw a layout and scan here hopefully?
Thanks both for looking.

Have you had the trouble with those point motors?? Some of the point motors that were in the shops were faulty, meaning that they couldn't switch the point??

Hello Andrew
At first some would only throw one way but after I fitted a CDU
they seem to be alright (touch wood).

Lucky sod! All that room!!

Looks great... can I add a suggestion? Its very flat, I know you can't do anything with the track, but can I suggest a few hills, or at least mounds in some of the green bits? You could consider taking out some of the buildings and adding a bit of "relief" scenery and trees just to break up the sight line when you look across the layout at board level... Use expanded poly or crumpled newpaper and Modroc to make them, then add some trees.

Here is a rough sketch of my layout. Definately no Tony Hatch gallery for me lol

Thanks b308 for your comments as you say it is flat.
I have just painted those areas to see what it looks like.
I will be making scenery as I progress with polysterene tile and pot scourers for hedges etc.
