Metrocamel's layout **new station pics added**.

Hi all, here's some pics of my layout.
Two loops one second radius and one third radius with sidings on a separate board. A scissors crossing takes the track to them and a tunnel takes up one end of both loops.
Bad quality but enjoy.

Pacer derailed at points .

Tunnel inside view.

Ballasted area, a bit heavy and tends to make some locos bump so for the screwdriver I think .

The full lenth of the tunnel, sonn to be painted.

The scissors crossing, 06 shunter and Pacer shown for a scale purpose. The idea was to allow both loops to connect to the sidings without having to go from loop to loop and interupt the other trains running.

Ballasted section of track again.

Good progress Metro.
I've given up on ballasting because I had continuous running problems on my first layout. I just use a grey underlay and that's sufficient for me - not for the purists , by I never was that pure !!
There's an underlay that 'Ironduke' swears by called 'AMI Instant roadbed' which allows ballasting to be a much cleaner operation. I don't know how much it costs tho .

See I don't mind ballasting - bung the telly or radio on, do a bit at a time. Quite theraputic really.


Before you finish those tunnels it might be an idea to put some brick paper on the inside of the cardboard (or embossed sheet if you want to go the whole hog). I remember having a papier mache tunnel on my very first layout as a nipper and even then I thought it looked a bit naff because the trains disappeared into this big 'hole'. Real tunnels are actually tunnels, lined with bricks. The improvement in realism is enormous (and you'll want to do this job before putting the top of the tunnel on - it'll be damn difficult once it's complete!)

Great progress!!

For what it's worth, I'm in the "don't do ballast camp". It wrecked my second layout and I had to start over, but glad I did. Mine is beded on thin styrene then ballast up to the edge.

for ballsting i use a 40mm brush turned sidewades becasit clears the rail first time and the sleepers on the out side perfectly

Hello Metro , I would like to ask you a big favour please .
Your bridge - I want to scratch build one very similar to that , a double version in effect to span 2 pairs of lines . I'm looking for some measurements please - can you help please ??

The tunnel mouth is sort of an incomplete circle so if I find it's diameter, radius, centre etc would you be able to make them then?
I can find out the size of what the full circle would be and how much should be missed off at the bottom. Then the distance from top to bottom and right to left.
Will that help?
