Very little snow (incredibly there is more in Cambridge than there is here in Canada) but it is cold and the wind is biting.

Plenty to go around here

Nice work on the layouts. 57008 looks very atmospheric 8)

Thanks!

Still no snow here really, but cold and a good chance of freezing rain at Christmas.

Crick Road Update:

Passengers faced hours of delays in the Daventry area yesterday as Network Rail and the BTP closed the line after a small rodent was found to have jumped the fence and walked along the line, leaving its distinctive calling card behind it. After a thorough cleanup, normal rail service resumed. Daventry Council were also out in force after it was found that the rodent had also left its mark all over Daventry too. Following a trapping operation, the culprit was caught and (sadly) disposed of this morning.

IC&L Update:

The marsh area is progressing well, I think I will wait until I can get some long grass. The loading bay is also progressing well, once I have saved up another 8 matches I should be able to finish it. The concrete sections for the plastic pellet unloading point and the platform have glued well and it is time for some touch-up on the ballast.

Crick Road Update: Nothing to Report

IC&L Update: This photo shows the progress, mostly on the concrete sections and the marsh (in the foreground).

Crick Road Update: Nothing to report, mice have not been back.

IC&L Update: The IC&L has had more progress since the last photo. I have realigned the foundations for the factory (much more logical now). I have installed the parking lot and painted/weathered the road. I think that the parking lot may be redone with a finer dirt. I have also decided that the layout is too green, so some brown and yellow will be added.

Christmas brought a copy of Great Model Railroads 2010 and two boxcars: a 40' Ontario Northland boxcar and a 50' Railbox boxcar. The stock collection for the IC&L is probably finished, except perhaps another caboose would be nice!

Crick Road Update: Nothing to Report.

IC&L: I am rather busy right now but I managed to add a few details to the layout. To save money, I built them using card and painted them but the effect is quite good. I added a re-railer to my Alco RS-3, as well as a track bumper and derail to the factory siding.

Merry Christmas Thomas,
You're still making good progress with your Lay-out. Hope the "white-stuff" stays in Alaska and the Northern Territories for a while longer as I am well aware of just how "white" it can get and for how long :) . Looking forward to more Posts as and when possible. Take Care,
Kind Regards,
Michael Thornberry.

As I look out of my window, I can see about 1cm of snow on the ground. The wind chill yesterday was -25 Celsius though! Expecting more snow tonight.

Crick Road Update: Nothing to report.

IC&L Update: Little changes in the scenics but I have started building the factory. Because it is such a large part of the model railway, progress will be slow.

Playing around with the settings on the camera for better depth of field. You can see the rerailer attached to the RS-3 chassis.

Crick Road Update: The layout is running well and I am just running trains at the moment. I have also tried photos using my new camera and I am very pleased with the results.

IC&L Update: The layout has been moved to my room (it fits!) and I am able to see it in natural light for the first time. I am working on the factory but, as it is going to be such a large part of the layout, progress is slow as I try to make it as good as possible.

Crick Road Update: Nothing to Report

IC&L Update: The factory is nearly complete, except for details, weathering and the storage tanks. I recently purchased a CP Rail caboose and an Ontario Northland bulkhead flat (for carrying pulpwood). Most of the signs are complete and I am ready for the road markings.

Crick Road Update: Nothing to report.

IC&L Update: Lots of details have been added, including road markings and signs. The factory roof is proving to be very difficult to attach and the storage tanks still need some work.

Here are a few photos:

There are several retailers in Canada who stock UK outline (for a price). 66068 was a Christmas gift several years ago, I believe purchased through Hattons.

Crick Road Update:

Nothing to report.

IC&L Update:

A new addition to the fleet is a Rapido Trains caboose in Algoma Central livery. I will be posting a review shortly. It really is an excellent model:

Crick Road Update:

Nothing to report.

IC&L Update:

It has been quite a while since the last update! The layout is nearly complete with signs in place and the low-lying marsh land is now finished. The only thing not yet done is to finish the factory roof, which keeps warping. I will have to sort out a few supports to hold it.
