1st attempt @ Hornby trackmat layout!
1st attempt @ Hornby trackmat layout!
Her is the start of my attempt to knock up the Hornby track mat layout that came with the DCC mixed goods set, all the track has been bought and laid out. Next I marked round all the track in pencil with the intention of spraying where the track sits with grey paint (to help with making the ballast look convincing when it starts to fall off). I have decided to use the ballast - wallpaper paste mix method, I hope this will work!

This looks vaguely familiar
Tho' I'm just stretching my trackmat out by 2'6".
Have you DCC'd the pacer? And if so...
How many decoders does it need? Is it 1 each end?
How easy/fiddly was it?
(That sounds quite abrupt but it's not meant to be!)
Be interesting to see what you make of the trackmat. There's a couple of 'mat based layouts on here in progress.
Cheers!

Re: 1st attempt @ Hornby trackmat layout!
After much thought I decided to rethunk the Trackmat layout as a personal touch is always needed, also if I want to run the 155 & HST I have DCC'd for the layout then a little more track space is required. The only downside to this was the realisation that I would now need more buildings to make my "market town". Any comments please!!

That design is much better then the hornby one!
I know that the track mat is small but they did do another one that was a much better layout.

Hi Acky,
You did exactly the same as me and ditched the trackmat! There are some good layouts on here using it but as you say "the personal touch" is always better.
Is your baseboard 6x4?
One thing I have learned is not to pin anything down or finalise your trackplan for a while, it took me ages to settle on the final plan. really glad i didn't rush in.
Looking good so far
Cheers

Yeah the board is 5'11" x 4', I just decided that the Hornby trackmat would be easy to follow but not "mine" if you know what I mean. Just waiting to get stuck in now, need to start testing the entire track with my DCC'd HST after using staples for the points instead of the Hornby items which was a tip I was given by someone on here!!!

Re: 1st attempt @ Hornby trackmat layout!
Hi all,
Unfortunately due to a new baby arriving I have not had chance to do much more to the layout and have even toyed with the idea of selling up, I have still so much more to do and have just managed to get the Pacer and HST DCC'd. The Super Sprinter is nearly done and then all DMU's etc will be finished! Will try to keep the thread updated, wait out!
