Arpley Street DCC sound new pictures of 60048

Postby Lewis Nash » Tue Apr 28, 2009 7:01 pm

hello all
after wanting a DCC railway for over a year i have finally started, this time steam and BR are banned and EWS and other TOCS reign supreme. :)
this is the first post of my second model railway,Nashton being the first and this the second. :D
it is a modern image DCC 6x4 layout.i am using my train set but have bought a bachmann EWS class 37 [dcc fitted] and a hornby select controller.i have the wood so once the baseboard is built the trackmat can be glued, track layed and the DCC bus wired.i am using the trackmat for the ovals but changing the sidings.it will feature a station, stabiling point ans some goods sidings,at one side will be a tunnel with town scene on top.era is 2000-2006 and will feature EWS mainly,i wont be adding any DB locos becuase i personally prefer the EWS corporate look and its a shame DB has binned the livery and name. :(

i also have some EWS wagons and will be getting some more soon, expect the first pics at the weekend as i should have the baseboard built.

track plan

dont worry,im a steam fan as well !

only it is more prototypical to have no steam, anyway i dont have any steam fitted with DCC,maybe eventually there will be the odd charter,if its steam and BR you like then i have a 60s layout, nashton[see link on signature]

Hi Lewis, what happened to the buildings?? ...they look like they have been squashed flat?!!

hi terrier

yeah the track fits perfectly, the trackmat will eventually be covered and it is just a guide when track laying.
the buildings illustrated on the trakmat arent what im using, skaledale and scenecraft will rule supreme :D
they both offer exelent ranges of modern and industrial buildings.
wiring is now being undertaken, the bus for the outer oval is nearing completion. :D

Do yourself a favour :D get a glue gun to secure those wires with.
Only costs about £10 and it holds wire really well, little blob of glue then press the wire into it,tape isn't a very good long term solution :D

Hi Lewis, top stuff mate. Looks like you're a long way to becoming operational, though I suppose really this is just the end of the beginning for the layout ;)

Keep us informed mate

Thanks for the comments tim :)

A couple of new pictures, work is underway to pin down the second oval, not much trackwork to be pinned down now.
i will have to wait untill sunday when i get back with my soldering iron and trackwork[i am visiting my grandparents house where the sodering iron currently is adfter use on Nashton]

so you've based your layout on the newer trackmat right? Good progress then. Are you going to use underlay? I've used it and it does make trains run quieter. I have to do a dcc bus but don't have time :(

hi hobby boy

yeah im using the new track mat,im not using underlay as it is time consuming and doent really make a difference in the end as although cork underlay does make trains quieter the ballast makes the trains loud again!
TRAINS ARE NOW RUNNING! :D

My first DCC train ran today,i am using the hornby wires supplied with the controller for the time being untill i get round to sodering the droppers at the weekend.DCC is far superior to DC although as i like DC as well Nashton will remain DC :)

PICTURES OF 37114,WAGONS AND CONTROLLER TO BE UPLOADED TOMMOROW
:D

also i have made the formers for the hill which will hide the fiddle yard and am building the backscene :D
i am planning a big build session at the weekend, track completely wired, more wagons bought and operated on the layout and possibly track ballasting starting! :D

so what do you think of the hornby select?? To me i find it a bit fidely as you have to press multiple buttons etc. Apart from that, if you upgrade to the hornby elite you can use the select as a walkabout controller (useful if you have to go to too places on the board).
