I just came down from the loft doing exactally that.
Im now thinking of having a war memorial ontop of the hill instead of a castle ruins, does anyone think this might look too out of place?

it might do, but if you have a footpath going up to it and a small fence around it, it shouldn't look too out of place. (Hornby and Harburn Hamlet do good Memorials)

That grass looks really good - what did you use?

It's coming together really well lms, especially if as you say you've now covered the joins.

The one thing that's standing out to me are the unpainted rails - I think once you've got that covered it will all blend in very nicely.

The grass is the reverse side of some hanging basket liner I got at the garden centre.

Here is what the war memorial would look like. Obviously I will add a track up to it and a bench or two around it.


You can also see how ive started to fill in the gaps between the liner (glue isnt dry yet)

Once the scenery work has near enough been completed then I will get around to weathering the tracks.

Hey Lms. I don't think the memorial looks out of place, as the war memorial in Borth, is on top of a cliff, and there is a very tiring walk up to it :'( As long as you bed it into the ground well enough and not make it look like it is flying on top of the grass it will look great.

No post today means I didnt get some bits I need for the layout
However it does mean I got to do some weathering. They still need a more work but the base coat is done.

This layout is coming along very nicely. The hills look a lot better with the hedging in place and the basket liner looks pretty effective on the hillside.

Also I like the weathering on those wagons... You've just taken the plasticy look off them. Great job.

First update of 2011 I believe.
I have added some trees and part of the backscene (all be it not very well). I glued it on and it has puffed out slightly in some places, I think I will use double sided sticky tape to do the rest. Anyway here are some pictures.

I have put up the rest of the backscene in the country area and this is how its looking so far!

I also had my first attempt at weathering a tanker wagon and here is how it turned out. If you have any pointers as to how to improve please do share them

The backscene looks good - certainly adds depth to the board.
The weathered tanker is excellent and seems quite realistic to my eyes.
