As the layout is based in my Grandma's garage i have to transport it too and from the clubroom. The new raised section meant i couldn't fit it all in my car so i left half of it at the club so i could finish off the raised section

A couple to show how far i've got with track laying

And i had to take some with stock on

Thats all for now, Enjoy

Wow, had to go to page 4 to find this!!!

Not a massive update but i have had a go at re-painting some coaches. As i'm running modern image i intend to run railtours, in particular a vintage trains tour. These use a mix of mk1 pullmans and chocolate/cream mk2s, unfortunatley the latter is not available ready to run so i purchased some FGW TSO mk2's and i knocked the following up.

Chocolate is on

My rake so far, Hall class loco, mk1 support coach, 3 pullmans, 3 mk2s

In time i will add a further TSO and BSO to complete the rake.

Also i will be heading of to Uni in a few weeks so this layout will shortly be put on hold :( At least i will be building one when i'm there lol

Just been catching up on your thread Ollie - and glad I did.
Seeing the baseboards taking shape gives a clearer picture of the scope of your plans - and they sure are big

Any idea how long it'll take to get all the track in place and wired etc?
Likewise scenics?
I'm finding on Frankland everything is taking a lot longer than I originally thought (but then I'm not particularly quick :? )

Neat respray on the carriages :)

I can only dream about having a layout that size. I'm lucky to have a layout 42x29inches! Will definitely be keeping an eye on your progress.

Thanks, glad i have some interest in the layout lol
To date i am unsure on timewise, i have two weeks before i move to sheffield so i would like to have a bit more track down before i go. After then progress will be limited to end of term holidays and summer. Bearing all this in mind i would like to have all the track layed, wired and operational by this time next year.
On the scenics i would like some ballasting done by this time next year and hopefully have some of the basics e.g. platforms done then too. I'm aiming at 3 years before it is in a reasonably complete state.

And i'll admit it is a large layout and i'm lucky that my grandma has allowed me use of her garage :D

This gave me a reason to have a little play

And yes that is a farish 08

This shows where the chip is

I hope to get a bit more layed in the next few days so watch this space

Evening all

Right this is just a small update on some new stock additions.

For starters i have been working on my vintage trains rake a bit more, by this i mean i have painted up some interiors and added some people into four of the current rake of 6:
Image

And of course the are some steam lovers with their heads out the window:
Image

The pullman car is heavily populated:
Image

Right onto freight additions, A chap at antics is selling his entire collection of N Gauge so i picked up a few bargains. The best of these is a pair of ATM 'pocket' wagons for £12 each instead of the £35 each retail!!!
Image
Image

Next bargain is a couple of Freightliner HHA's for £5 each!!
Image

My TEA Tanker rake has been increased by one with this weathered one for £4
Image

Finally i picked up the following for £2.50 each
Image
Image

I also got given a budget by my mum, dad and grandma for Christmas but i won't reveal what until the big day ;)

Hey Peter,

Yes the big layout is mine (as is the small one in the other thread) It is in my grandma's garage and as she lives around the corner i can get to it very easily. This is when i'm at home that is, as i'm at Uni i can only access it when i go home in holidays.
The Mk2's are just a bit of fun really, i wanted a railtour rake and thought it'd be worth having a go on some old coaches. And expect a West Cost rake appearing at some point.

Evening all, i've got another rolling stock update for you.

My vintage trains rake is coming along nicely so i've began my second railtour rake, this time a West Coast Railways set. This set will be slightly easier to do as they have plenty of Mk1 coaches so i will not have to repaint much (Except a Mk2 FO i've already started)
I'm using the precision labels decals and the following is where i am at so far:
MK2 FO repainted into a maroonish colour, WCRC decals added, just need to line and number
Image

Mk1 SO, WCRC decals added and numbered to 4940
Image

Mk1 SK, WCRC decals added and numbered 99722 (18806) in real life this has a TSO interior which i will replicate at some point (picture not great on this one)
Image

And a final close up of the west coast decal

All the best

Well good afternoon all!

Has it really been 3 months since i posted? So it has and in all honesty there isn't much to post. I just thought i'd share the progress of the Vintage Trains rake:

This is the current formation on coaches and loco:
Image

The hall in the photo is 4965 Rood Ashton Hall which in real life runs with the smaller tender, i'm gonna have a go at this and i've ordered a PD Marsh one to play with (If it all goes wrong then i'll re-number to 4936 Kinlet Hall). The pullmans in the photo are the Bach-Farish Mk1 version, after studying photos and seeing the real thing i noticed the actual Vintage Trains ones are slightly different....
Here is what a pullman looked like after treatment:
Image

Roof painted BR Coach Roof Grey and numbers gently rubbed off the side with a fibre brush.

And just a random shot down the rake.
Image

Aside from the new tender i will soon be ordering a 'Shakespeare Express' headboard when i have a bif of spare cash. Also when released i will be getting the remaining coaches to complete the rake (MK1 FO and BSK) making this a full 10 coach rake. I am also very tempted to enter this into the N Gauge Society AMMC. Do you think it'll be worth entering?

Layout wise i will be back home mid-April so more work on the layout itself can occur :D
