I also use Javis Extra Fine Grey Granite chippings and I have had no problems with green ness, only thing I've noticed is sometimes it turns my track grey, (probably through dust,) only certain track sections though! :S

I too have used this (think the link was the post I put up about the Javis ballast). I used watered down PVA to fix it in place and the colour still looks good, although I recently hit on the idea of using tea leaves dissolved in water and thickened a bit with paint to stain the ballast a bit browner. Below pic shows comparison where the outer loop has been stained.

Yes you're right this is dust. At first you'll need to give the track a regular wipe but after a few days and a bit of running the dust should settle down, assuming your ballast is glued down. Just make sure the track is clean before running your locos to stop the wheels getting dirty.

MMmmm cmeonthemove,

Tea staining, looks good - wonder what the result would be to use tea to mix with PVA, between the rails, rather than just water ????

Interesting idea which I must try !!

I used a batch of that ballast and it was awful. I spoke to a rep at the company and he told me that the original quarry had closed down and they were forced to go somewhere else. It is made up of slate which turns green when wet. They had been inundated with complaints and were sourcing a new supplier. Stick with Woodland scenics.

but think it was 91011...so no arguments lol :P

apologies for the lots of posting and it annoys you all

just excited about it all, and sadly i lost huge amounts of my pictures when i was a kid and i moved on in my life, but I have to be lucky in the fact that so many different types f traction came to wolverhampton, so i guess i can model this layout how i want-heres some pictures of what has been in wolves....only wish i had all of my pictures and have had to rely on google as proof as what came to wolverhampton in order to model my layout effectively.

Plus class 50's used to come in to wolves a lot....

The last booked appearance of a Class 50 in the West Midlands occurred on 30th June 1990 when 50035 Ark Royal worked the 07:18 Paddington-Wolverhampton service and its return working.

Back in the days when I had a propper job I used to repair computer monitors at Samsung, 6 years building cctv cameras and equipment racks and a year as a service engineer fixing vending machines. Now I just work pt as a handyman at our local asda still these days you have to take what work is available.
