Re: Starlingford - Quayside Completion, pg 101!

Some more work is nearing achievement! First of all, I have been painting coastal defence forts. No pics as yet, sorry - I still need to do the camouflage. However, the two little shops that go next to the pub have been mounted on their mounting card base and have had their gardens done! They are not yet in situ, but here they are landscaped out of context....!

As ever, fantastic work, Gavin! :D

The quayside looks great; how about a cat stalking one of those seagulls?!
It is good to see those old Superquick favourites still being used, and your photos show just how good they can look with some "landscaping!"

Finally, has anyone seen the film 'The Expendables'? If so, you may recognise this...

Not seen the movie, but I recognise the aircraft - It is a Grumman Hu-16 Albatross. There is a much-photographed wreck of one in Death Valley, CA.
See here and here!

Cheers,

Don

Hi Gavin,

Nice to see work started again on Starlingford, I've missed these. Nice work with the new buildings, these will look great when dropped onto the layout.

Love the A4 money well spent there I think, a very nice addition to a lovely well stocked fleet which has loads of my favourite locos, and the A4 certainly looks great in that colour livery.

Look forward to more photo updates.

Mike.

Hi Gav mi' old mucker! :)

Good to see you've been busy. Great to see the quayside looking so busy and I like the new buildings. And the plane is splendid 8)

Hope all is well up your end. Was just 'down the road' from you recently when the missus and I went to Edinburgh ;)

Cheers fella

Hello chaps (and chapesses, if there are any of those near-mythical beasts lurking about)

Thank you all for your kind words! The buildings have been positioned, and so too have the A4s....and armour....enjoy!

Regards,
Gavin

I've been running my LNER-liveried J39 on a tanker train today:

And my thanks to Ben for the wagon exchange that resulted in the barrier wagon used at the head of the train :-)

Good work,

Always like a series of your photos with the differing cameo scenes .....

Ahem. I have *now* finished the quayside - foolishly, I had forgotten the wooden piles that appear on quayside walls. Here they are now, complete with L1 and 20t NE wagons...

And finally...now it's time to take everything off the tunnels in anticipation of organising everything!

Another update at the end of the evening, to show progress, I think....!

Good evening all. I promised this:

And I showed you this:

And now it's time for me to deliver!

Here is how things now stand:
Image

The concrete is new, and those who have being paying attention at the back of the class - sit up straight, Tim lad, and stop dribbling - will know I've been working on the two coastal defence forts on the right hand side. They are not quitee finished - their bases need painted and bedded in - but they're nearly there. These are they in situ:

Image

One modification of which I am particularly proud is the replacement of a range-finder with a 40mm Bofors AA gun:

Image

Which ought to be something to give overflying pilots pause for thought....

Image

I have also added a small vehicle repair facility. In these pictures you can see a Sherman Firefly parked up for evaluation...

Right - tomorrow the work will continue! Onwards and upwards, as they say...
Gavin

Hi Gavin,

Wonderful stuff, you had me drooling with the A4's photo's, then the LNER pudding feast, followed by the icing on the cake the WWII armour.

Where do you go from here ? Can you top these last few updates ?

Well done.

How about a freshly-repaired and fully working Tornado from an unusual angle?

Freshly repaired? What was wrong with the beauty?

The left-hand eccentric rod fell off! A drop of superglue on the correct moving parts solved the problem....
