Aston Barr
Had go at another section last night with a different type of ballast. The guy I bought it from at an exhibition said it had come from the same quarry as my Javis stuff. Yeah right.........!
Anyway, I was a bit dubious last night. It was must finer and took longer to spread and get just right before adding the glue.........but this morning I'm quite pleased with it. It is finer, which I think looks more real and its dried a better colour. Be interested to know what you all think.
This is the finer stuff......
......compared to this, which I did a few nights ago.......

Progress has been really slow
but I've managed to finish the ballasting on the two main loops
I've also extended the track a little to utilise the chimney breast alcove and I've given it a quick makeover
Its not perfect but it gives me somewhere to 'park up' some coaches. I won't be ballasting the track but it gave me some practice on the scenery. Although its only makeshift I'm quite pleased with the outcome
I need to get to work on a water tank so I can get it into place and ballast the goods and engine shed area.

Re: Aston Barr
A quick update.
Don't seem to getting very far very fast and would probably have been much further forward if I'd have purchased ready made buildings. But,I decided to build my own from kits and I get much more satifaction from the end result.
Its took me over a week to paint and put this together...........

...........and although I found the very small parts hard to handle, I'm really pleased with the result.
I can finish the ballasting now around the engine and goods sheds

Re: Aston Barr
Like that building
- is that a Ratio kit? Looks great! How much did you have to paint and how much was aleady coloured? More questions - looks likeyou weathered it too?

Yeah its a ratio kit, number 540.
Had to paint all parts, some more than others. The roof for instance only had paint applied as weathering.

Re: Aston Barr
Done all the ballasting around the business area of the layout. Was a bit worried about how it would turn out at first because I think I hadn't got the mix with the PVA and water just right, but I think the end result speaks for itself.

Got to add some greenary between the tracks but the hard work is done.
I have added some green to give me an idea of what it will look like.

What I am finding awkward is trying to clean the tracks inside the sheds. My hands are just too big to get inside with the track rubber. Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Aston Barr
Going to make a goods yard for vehicle access, a station area and fill the remainder up with some dwellings and gardens. I've got an area already sectioned off for a small gas/oil depot.
Probably change all those ideas tomorrow though lol
