Lovely layout you got there. Enjoyed reading and spotting the grim reeper scene!

Answers to your questions:

Firstly, thank you all for your kind comments.

Alex (Chuffer Chuff): The tram is an Anglicised Bachmann San Francisco Cable Car, once stripped of its American fittings (roof boards, gong, front fender) the car has a distinctly British look about it. There were two 4-wheel versions (part open/part saloon) called 'Winter Cars' that ran along Southend Pier between 1914 and 1949, they were originally petrol-electric and converted to straight electric in 1927 and these cars influenced my choice of a pier tram.

Infrontofcat: Don't forget to visit the Southend Pier Museum below the shore station - open between May and October.

Wobblybob: My sign-off quote comes from Dante's 'Divine Comedy' in which the Italian inscription appears over the gates of Hell and literally translates as 'All hope abandon ye who enter here', better know these days as 'Abandon hope all ye who enter here'.

I have lived with this layout since 1999 and your refreshing comments have made me enjoy it again!

Must post some pics of a LT railway depot I used to work at.

Dave

Yes Dave, the Dante quote should have been in the 'mission statement' of one of my former employers!

Hi Jordan,

For some reason my old one of Southend Pier Railway doesn't work on this site, so I've used one of the forum's own avatars and this is of the maglev experimental car 'developed' by BR and Imperial College, London that was never sucessful and is stuffed and mounted at Railworld, Peterborough.

Cheers,

Dave
