Discontinued by peco
Can be found in some shops mail order (1 or 2 left in stock)
i.e. http://www.stocktonmodeller.co.uk/sl44- ... 23-peco-oo
but to my mind, at 86mm long, the joins with fishplates, immediately before and after make it a bit redundant! Considering it would be in welded rails, realistic would need joins soldering but with no fishplates! Best of luck with that!

Might see if I can acquire a couple - even if just for novelty factor!

Constructed a test backscene board:

And in position:

Will screw it to the small uprights already fixed to the brickwork. Prime it with something paint related. Or maybe lining paper? Might be too much faff though!

Need to start to put some track-bed areas down. Thinking of using this http://bit.ly/1IluyCg for that job (12mm I think). Probably cut to the rough outline of where the track will go so I can put some up & down terrain. Thoughts?

Definitely the right stuff, some people use 9mm to allow it to be braced less often, but if planned out so you don't end up with a piece of timber where you want a point motor then 6mm will be fine. I would try and see if it's cheaper to buy larger sheets and get it cut down though as 4x2ft sheets can work out expensive on a large layout.

I get bored very quickly with the logistics when moving 8'x4' sheets. I have work vans but its still hassle once I get home with them. The smaller ones I can hide away behind furniture & that, despite the extra cost is worth the saving in domestic grief... Am sure I am not alone in that!

Another distraction... Was coming through Paddington the other night. Thought I would stop to look at the Night Riviera leave, but the shunter was more interesting than the 57 that hauls it:

Anyway there you have it.

Nice shot. I have seen a 57 do the shunting task as well. From Old Oak Common I think.

The weather is rubbish outside & days are shorter. Went into the loft today after watching some YouTube videos of railways. Trying to get my interest back up again. The rather depressing scenes we've all seen in Paris led me to find something positive to get back into! We'll see what next few days hold...

The expansion joints shouldn't be difficult to create. A stroke across the railheads with the sharp edge of a file, and some bits of brass rod, there's an alternative style that has two short bits of FB rail bolted to three sleepers. Probably why Peco stopped making them. Bit of a downer if the long welded rail joint has a fishplates joint either side of it. :)

Went to Tolworth today. Forgot it was on until I glanced in the show pages of Model Rail magazine:

Nice 3rd rail work here:

Have been trying to find a good canal scene to try & emulate. Everard Road has a good one, & there is another on here somewhere. Saw this today to add:

Trams at Kew:

I think this was in BRM's December edition:

Have actually done something tonight. Got home from work, went to Wickes and got some ply. Started to put some tops on my frames:

Am going to build some depth into the scenery but this is about is all I have managed to do in some while. Onwards!

With those battery drills it made me think of Star Wars,
they look a little sinister.

Dremel ehh, that'll distract you.
