Re: 8x4 roundy round
They look good. Needs a ghosted worn out advertising sign on the end brick walls!
I think scalescenes have just brought out a transfer. One day I will have a go printing from PC onto a transfer sheet (it's very low down the investigation list, but I have a pack of transfer paper)

Funny you say that, I had thought that would be awesome. I found a couple of vendors online but hadnt bought anything yet. Any suggestions for quality signage? Ill check out scalescenes to thanks. I have to see if transfer paper is available here in aus. We can get the iron on stuff but cant say ive seen water transfersTimberSurf wrote:They look good. Ill see how I go with lighting. Your right about the extra detail. The shop fronts actually face away from the station side so theyre not all that visible anyway.Mountain wrote:Very nice. Very well detailed. A mammoth task of a job to add interiors as well. A form of low relief interiors may help for the shop window displays. Its tempting to put lights in such delightful models, but then one may need to go the extra mile with the detailing.

The terraced houses are amazing!

Thanks Chops and Samuel19 !
The photos dont show that well unfortunately as the white seems too reflective to obtain a good photo but this is the current progress for the week. Weve got a polystyrene hill/ tunnel built and the valley bellow. Im pretty happy with it. I hope once sealed off and can get some scenery down it will look a bit better. Anyway heres the pics...

Hi Josh
Wow liking this layout very much. Excellent architectural modelling and now the terrain is helping to pull it all together. It's looking good. I am watching this with interest.

The hill and tunnel is looking good - I used a similar method of construction for my layout.
One (hopefully redundant) question: is the hill/tunnel removable to access the track for cleaning or to recover a derailed train?
A detail best resolved now rather than after you have spent a lot of time and care crafting a beautiful landscape

Looking at the first picture Alan, he has access from the side, so no need to lift of the top

How did you find using your method for construction? Overall I like using the foam. Id have sooner used more of an insulation based foam but styrofoam was more readily available. The down side of it is those little balls that are basically pressed together to create the foam board leave tiny craters and will have to be filled. I plann on going over the top with the paper towel/ pva method. I used it many years ago with good results.
Triuph1050 is correct, I sure did add a hole! I still need to tidy it up though. What i should probably do is actually make a finishing board for that entire end.
Montfort thankyou
Dublo, if I can interest someone such as yourself who can so perfectly model a layout in a vintage style, which is extremely difficult to do... Im happy to be doing something right!

Re: 8x4 roundy round
Great work on the layout Josh.
I hope you had the vacuum cleaner on full as you carved through the styrene, its very messy when you start chopping it! It gets everywhere and sticks to your clothes!!
I remember my first experience with it, I ended up looking like a snowman, after chopping through several blocks to make some mountains that never actually got onto a layout!! my ex gf at the time wouldn't let me in the house until I'd cleaned myself and the garage up!
Excellent work I'm looking forward to more

Ha ha thanks mate. Yes surev did have the vacuum handy. I found I could only carve so much before having to vacuum just to see what I was doing! Went through 3 bags in the vacuum. Your right about your clothes not fairing well lol.Phat Controller wrote:Great work on the layout Josh.
