A cardboard layout

Another idea: building a cardboard layout. It could be used in 00, H0 or N scale / gauge. The curves radius is 10" (250mm).
If you think this layout looks like a hill you saw somewhere else, you're right.
As usual all your constructive criticism are welcome.

Corrugated cardboard instead of plywood, but built on the same principals. Wonder where he gets the pristine sheets of card?

I'm sure Beynac will forgive me for butting in here. I've moved this thread into Baseboard design and construction as the link three posts back shows an important alternative method of light baseboard construction. It calls for a different approach to the design of the scenery, some extra care in how it is supported and transported and the application of a thorough layer of moisture proof varnish.
Why bother then? It's very light weight yet strong. The major material can be found cost free and it requires less carpentry skills and tools. All things which may persuade more beginners into the hobby and I think we all agree that is a very worth while thing. Don't be put off by the fact that the commentary is in French, just turn it off, as a how-to the video works perfectly in silence.

It is a brilliant concept of modelling on the cheap. The more scenery that is added, the firmer the results should be as the base strips for the scenery also add support to the structure just as much as the structure supports the strips. I love it.

Bad news ! My lovely dog played with my cardboard layout. Because she's not a true railway modeller, the result was a complete disaster.
I love my dog more than my work...so no punishment at all !
Unfortunately I used all my cardboard stock.

Sorry to hear of the fate of your layout , next time use card from a case of washing powder, not of bicuits. Is scavenging from skips permissable in France, you should soon find some large sheets of card? Boxes for 1300cm flat screen TVs might be a good source. We have strict rules that say materials for recycling must be put inside the recycling bin. Big sheets of card often get stuck inside the bin causing the machine to keep trying to shake it out. So the refuse collectors prefer you to stand them alongside so they can just throw them in. Our collection day is Tuesday, so Monday evening is a good time to walk around the neighbourhood if you are looking for large sheets of card.

Without getting. Political, isn't it strange. The French expect to have to obey all laws, but if we believe the commentators, turn a deaf ear to inconvenient edicts from Brussels. The British take a cavalier attitude to the rule of law, but enforce every EU regulation no matter how ridiculous. Let's hope it doesn't all end in tears.
