Bridging the Gap - Competition entry.
Bridging the Gap - Competition entry.
This is something that has been on the back burner far too long
The plan is to bridge the gap from Sovereign Street here -- to here -- Falkland Station The distance is 2ft 2ins. First -- dismantle part of the track etc at Sovereign Street cutting the board so -- -and Falkland Station Glencairn

I shallbe following this with interest, see how the competition is shaping up, so to speak
Re: Bridging the Gap - Competition entry.
A little more work 'bridging the gap'. Extra support added to Falkland board.
Bridge in place.
Trackwork - will it work?

The trackwork is laid down. 'Huxtable' doing the honours of first to cross the bridge. Sorry about the picture. He was in a hurry - just in case!
Class 27 27037 was next.
Calder Railway number 1203 next on the first freight?
D1000 Western Enterprise testing the bridge.

Thanks Alex. I am toying whether to add a little scenery or will it 'go wrong' and disintegrate when dismantling the bridge?alex3410 wrote:looking good

Bridging the Gap works okay. The only challenges were I had to widen Falkland Tunnel to allow the longest engines I have to take the corner onto the bridge. and alter the position of Sovereign Street Station Building for the same reason.
After widening class 58 58001 enters onto the bridge. Class 45 45048 Royal Marines negotiates the curve and onto the bridge Glencairn

Re: Bridging the Gap - Competition entry.
Is it fixed, or is the intent to make it removable or hinged?
P.S. I think you picked the wrong project! You should have chosen new lighting scheme in the rail room! I haven't seen such dark, grainy pics since I last bought 400ASA instamatic film!

Isn't that the fun of modelling, I have to make changes from time to time, often because of something unplanned. Still. it keeps me out of mischief.glencairn wrote:The only challenges were I had to widen Falkland Tunnel to allow the longest engines I have to take the corner onto the bridge. and alter the position of Sovereign Street Station Building for the same reason. Naturally! The tunnel was fine - on the straight. Putting the curve in caused the challenges.Lancastrian wrote:Isn't that the fun of modelling, I have to make changes from time to time, often because of something unplanned. As the former 'elf and safety officer' when I worked, I think the bridge needs some parapets. ----

Work starts on bridge parapets - Bare wood waiting for 'brick'work one side.
'Brickwork' applied
First part of parapet attatched
More parapet fitted.

It is removable. Though I think it will remain in position longer than intended. I have more or less doubled the train run from the fiddle yard to Glencairn Station.TimberSurf wrote:Is it fixed, or is the intent to make it removable or hinged?

As for the lighting. Photography is not really for me. I just take pictures as and when.
As for the wrong project? Heck no! Bridging the Gap has been on the back burner far too long. Whether I win or not (I doubt very much I will. ) does not worry me. The competition has motivated me to build the bridge at last.
