Waiting for announced new models

Postby Grahame » Tue Apr 19, 2011 11:32 am

There currently seems to be quite a hiatus in the delivery of new models (stuff promised long ago) from all the manufacturers.

From Farish we're still waiting for the class 101 and class 03 that were displayed at last years TINGS and Warley and the new range of Scenecraft buses - and that's before anything from the new ranges announced at last months toyfair (as part of the new 2011/12 range) hit the streets. Apparently, according to MREMAG another batch of Graham Farish N gauge models has left China for these shores and should be in the shops late in May. But it only includes the SPAs as new. That means we're very unlikely to see the 101, 03 and buses until June/July and the summer is well underway.

The models expected at the end of May include the following:

371-981A Class 61xx Prairie tank No.6114 in GWR green livery
372-054 4F Class 0-6-0 No.44330 in BR black with late crest
373-029B PGA aggregate hopper in Yeoman CAIB weathered livery No.PR14184
373-031B PGA aggregate hopper in ECC quarries blue livery No.PR14368
373-260A Cattle wagon in BR bauxite (early) livery No.B893111
373-261A Cattle wagon in GWR dark grey livery No.106909
373-262 Cattle wagon in BR bauxite (late) livery No.B893085
373-976A POA box mineral wagon in ARC Tiger livery No.TRL5321
377-625 12Ton plywood fruit van in BR bauxite (early) livery No.B875800
377-626 12Ton plywood fruit van in BR bauxite (late) livery No.B875640
377-725 SPA steel coil wagon in Railfreight red livery No.460890
377-727 SPA steel coil wagon in EWS livery No.460513
377-730 ZAA wagon in departmental (Dutch) livery No.DC460323

And then what has happened to the Dapol HST125s and the new pantographs - no sign of them being available. This all means that there'll be a lot crammed in to the second half of the year making that period very expensive. Shame they can't spread it all out a bit better.

I suspect that the manufacturers would rather spread their wares out too. My guess is that due to the relatively small size of their production runs, they have to make the best of whatever slots are free in the factories.

Dapol have already stated they use several different factories to fit into available production slots, suppose it's who gets in first.

The first batch of Halls were due at the end of April but so far we have not even seen pre-production models so I guess they will be later.

At that rate I guess it would be that if you apply late for slots you'll end up with the later ones, so it's a matter of getting in quicker to snap up earlier slots.

Dapol Hall pre-production test shot moulding models have been produced and displayed for some while now. I've seen ones with and without a motor chassis fitted. And before that there was a hand built proving model that was hawked around.

I emailed Dapol re my pre-order at Hattons for a couple of HSTs and the response was May / June... So I guess they must be on a ship...

I'm currently hoping the Somalian pirates aren't railway modellers specialising in British 1980's era.

I asked at my local model shop yesterday and according to their newsletter from Dapol the Blue Grey HST is out in May and the intercity Swallow is out in June.

Hi

Here is the Dapol Virgin HST with DCC sound added.

This is a pre production model with modified lighting. The production model is far better. Dapol have done a brilliant job with the HST and I think most n gauge modellers will be very pleased with them.

Cheers

Martin

First batch of GWR Halls have been pushed back to June. Ah well, a bit more time to save up.

I've had an email from Hattons to say they are expecting the first batch to arrive with them on 5th May;.... so that's nearly another two weeks before the posties'll be delvering them through peoples letterboxes.
