Ebay madness

Thought it might be fun to start a topic about some silly prices things are going for on ebay.

Here's a good one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Minitrix-Shooting ... 1212445798

Where on earth did that price come from? £319 retail in 1993? Seems a bit far-fetched to me. Alternatively you could bid on this idential one, the price currently standing at a more modest £27.

That's not a reserve price, its a Buy-It-Now price. Two very different things. I often put a high BIN price on as some people are impatient and want the auction to end early.

EDIT: Reserves prices are never shown, only whether it has been met or not. My guess is that the £250 starting bid is to avoid putting a reserve price on the item which attracts more fees.

If I was going to spend nearly 3 grand I'd want to know exactly what I am getting... Perhaps thats why he's getting no bids... "Too much to list" is ****, use a smaller font and less chat and list 'em!

That auction is a joke, he isn't going to get anywhere near the total value listing them as a lot anyway. Apart from that its not much more than a lucky dip.

I see he says he will drop the price by £800 - I can't see £800's worth there ( second hand value) unless he's not listing the best bits. All the sets seem to have been split , so they have little value, and just why are there no pics of a lot of it?...
Errrmmm no thanks....

Yep, it smacks of a big con. He's not offering much - just 13 boxes but there's a lot he won't do; he won't list the contents, won't accept cheques or paypal, won't confirm if they are DCC chipped (but suggests they might be), won't post the goods (you have to collect), won't do anything apart from take your money. And it's hardly a layout without the baseboards. It might be a load of train set stuff but it can't really be considered a layout; will he lay the track, ballast it for you, wire it up, and construct the scenics. I doubt it. So just what are you paying for?

Its a scam, in that because Beaties are no more it would be very difficult to prove what he's saying is boll*x. I do believe we should all spam him to death for been a t**t.
