Shrewsbury model shop is closing its doors ,I called them today to ask about repairs and this is what they told me ,I feel sorry for these model shops trying to make a living only to throw in the towel in the end ,,,,,

A very sad sign of the times.

That'll be a shame, they moved around a fair number of times in the last couple of decades, I can remember at least two different locations in the centre as well as the current one outside... Didn't one of the people on here work for them? Hope he's ok... They also do non-railway products so we won't be the only ones missing them...

As an aside I'm visiting Manchester tomorrow for a few days so looked up model railway shops in or near the centre... Apart from Ian Allan there's nothing at all which surprised me, seems we're quite well supplied round the West Mids in comparison...

Can recommend the Locoshop. Turn left out of Besses o the Barns tram stop couple of hundred yards up the road, proper model shop! Closed Modays.
There's always Walton's at Altrincham, and they don't open Wednesdays.
If you have your own transport there's Brookside Nurseries Model Shop out on the London Road at Poynton. It has piles of stuff, literally. If you can find it they've got it, and there's usually something off. They have a miniature Railway running around the site. Runs weekends and School Hols. Just don't go out on the A6 through Stockport, Go out on the A34 and turn left onto the A555. AtoZ or a sat nav would be useful.
Enjoy Manchester it's great for a city break.

PS If you Search on UKMS for model shops check Cheshire as well as Greater Manchester.

Thanks, I'd wondered why Waltons didn't show!

I will be supporting my local Model Shop in Widnes as much as possible, I get a cup of tea and I am welcomed as a friend and not just a customer. You can keep your 'box shifters' unless as an absolutely very last resort.

I support the model shops. I get a much better service. There is conversation between the owners' and the customers in their shops. Not only that, I find prices are also competitive.
