How To Upload Images To The Forum

Postby saslord » Mon Jan 23, 2006 4:18 pm

Can I post Images?
Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images stored behind authentication mechanisms such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use either the BBCode [img] tag or appropriate HTML (if allowed).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can upload your railway images to www.railwaypictures.co.uk

You will need to register first. Then go to the appropriate category. You will see an upload button in the top right of the screen.

Once they are validated (this is done to stop inappropriate images being uploaded) they will appear for you to get the url from them. You get the url by right clicking on the image and selecting properties.

I'm having loads of trouble posting images which didn't occur in the previous version of the forum. I tend to use image hosting services which upload and store my image, then give me a neat little code to enter into my post which provides a thumbnail link to a larger version of the image e.g.:

The above seems to work fine but in my usual thread it just sits refusing to complete the posting process! When it does finally finish it's business I'm greeted with a "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image." red error message...

I just had that problem tonight. I was trying to load an image from railwaypictures.co.uk. It doesn't happen with images from Photobucket though ... is this still a problem or did people find a work-around ?

Thanks Kit, I was thinking I may just transfer older pictures across to Photobucket where my more recent images are stored :)

Whatever works for you I guess - does Photoboucket usefully give you the code to do the thumbnail/link to bigger image thing (as I usually use in my posts)

southernboy

Thanks for the hint. I'd actually cracked it at that point, use the [img}{/img] tags that the board generates, not the ones in uppercase generated by photobucket.

Glad you liked the picture. I'm teaching myself to use depth of field settings now, so should be able to get some decent close ups.

Cheers

Do the same rules for attaching drawings and sketches apply?

Yes, as long as they are saved as an image file.

You can attach pictures directly from your computer by using the Upload attachment tab which is below the Post a reply box. Choose the file and then select the Add the file tab:
