Hi everybody. Although I've admired model railroads from childhood, I have only recently decided to get involved in the hobby. As a total newbie, I will be relying on you guys' input quite often. So far, I can tell you the following:
1. I have 260 x 130cm space.
2. I have decided on a South African setting as that's where I am from.
3. I will be using HO scale with Lima being my choice of brand for rolling stock and locos.
4. I have a very limited budget, so will be using used/scratch-built items for now.
Having budgetary restraints, I decided to buy bits and pieces as they come up.
I have kicked off by acquiring track, small shunter and a few goods wagons, all S.A.Raiways from Lima.
I still have a long way to go before thinking of a layout, although I have some ideas on that.
Thank you for accepting me and I am looking forward to learning from you guys.

"Layouts Operational" fails to load (two tries on separate days), but "Automation, Automation Basics" does load.
Cheers

Hi William
Welcome!
Lack of budget and space made a scratchbuilder of me.
Now, at seventy, I thank for that and would not choose anything else even if I win the lottery.
I met several Southafrican fellows and was astonished by how they were able to see plenty of posibilities in every piece of the most simple material such a discarded plastic bag, a broken glass and so on. Delightful and very inspiring.
Can't wait to see what you build.
