What did you get for Christmas?

Postby captrees » Sun Dec 26, 2021 7:54 am

What did you get for Christmas?

I got all the usual stuff, I suppose. A couple of books, a pair of socks, a bottle of Gordon's Gin.

And this beauty. Whoo Hoo!

I've always wanted one of these. I don't think the new editions come in black, and anyway they are way too expensive. I found this in my local emporium of such things, and grabbed it about 5 months ago. $185, about half of new price. And this one is a brand new, never run in anger 2004 edition. Somewhat shocked at my "unnecessary" acquisition, 'er indoors said I must wait till Christmas, and she'd give it to me as a Christmas present.

It was a long wait, and she still hasn't reimbursed my money.

Three hand tools, a secondhand but great condition Hornby (Ex Dapol) 0-4-0ST and various non-railway related things.

Oh. And a hillarious thing happened this Christmas. I gave a board game to my brother as I did not know what to get him, and guess what I had as a present? The exact same board game!

I got Hornby R3471 Class 50 NSE 'Indomitable', To be fair though, I bought it and Glorious, ages ago but they've stayed boxed and off the layout so I don't get distracted with running trains, rather than getting the track and scenery done on the layout!

As I wasn't going to get any presents this year I thought I'd give one to myself so I had something to open! TBH, I bought this livery because its prototypical, not because I really like it but I have to say I actually think it looks really good.

I haven't actually removed it from the plastic sleeve yet though as we spent Xmas at my sister in laws!

Nothing. We've ignored the whole thing for the last 41 years. It's the Solstice that matters to us :)

Only 2 model railway items this year.
One of the new Hornby 6 wheeled coaches in Southern livery and a Lima Class 31 in Fragonset livery.

After wethering the comments of the mother in law having allowed her to go to a train shop to purchase me something I ended up with an egg wagon in 009 and metcalfe castle gatehouse from her and some tools from my wife.

I got more Rails vouchers to go with the ones I got for my birthday at the end of September. They will be used when something suitable catches my eye, maybe a Bachmann 08 or Heljan 02 for the Goods Depot layout.
I'm never asked 'what do you want for Xmas/Birthday' so I'm no trouble to buy for lol.
Another bonus is the wife's eldest daughter lives just up the street from the Rails shop so she collects for me. Cuts out the postage as well.

Hope Santa was good to all you modellers out there and here's hoping 2022 will be better than 2021. It's got be, hasn't it?

My daughters bought me a new T shirt, no idea why they picked this one though.

The People's Committee of Rail Roads authorized this SBB Personen and Guterzuglok to be added to the Soviet State Railways. The Red Stars are my own addition. Small Austrian company out of Austria, called Kleinbahn. Runs super sweet and slow.
Nessie rocks!
