It has come to that time in life when I shall, unfortunately, have to dispose of Bath Queen Square. But I'm not sure the best way or where to go to do it. Should I sell piecemeal or, as a whole and to whom. Has anyone ever had to do the same? Any advice or information would be most welcome. It is a large wire-in-tube operated layout with about 50 locos and various coaching stock. It will break down into separate board lengths.
Kind regards.

The locos and rolling stock are simple, it ranges from simple and quick, sold as a lot to a dealer; or prolonged DIY with all the packaging and posting which will typically offer a much better return. If you do attempt sale of the layout complete, you might want to offer the stock with, as that could be an inducement to purchase.
The layout is difficult, no good pretending otherwise. Because layouts are bespoke, it is necessary to do a sales job of accurate description of the whole, and the individual boards: how large, how constructed, photos: much like an estate agents house particulars. I'd try for complete, buyer removes in one visit, with an estimate of the vehicle size required; and if that gets no takers, piecemeal board by board.

All depends if you've got the time or inclination to sell separately. A friend of mine inherited his dad's N gauge layout and was offered £600. It was in bad condition with many loco's non-working or missing parts but I offered to sell it for him when I could be bothered and currently he's made about 1500 with still loads to sell. Obviously if you sell it all together its going to attract dealers who will pay more than probably a private buyer for the entire thing but much less than what the parts are worth individually to someone who really wants a certain loco or controller. Personally i'd sell the locos, buildings etc.. on ebay or facebook Marketplace. The actual lay-out is much less valuable in relation to the time and effort you spent on it and you often see unrealistic prices for them on ebay or facebook. End of the day whoever buys it will probably dismantle it anyway so I'd sell it for whatever you can get for it or if you can take it apart without wrecking everything then go that way. All depends if you can be bothered really.
