Rapido/Model rail 16XX 0-6-0PT sound decoders

Postby bob hughes60 » Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:33 pm

These models come with a Next-18 decoder fitting and a sugar cube speaker already in the coal bunker.
Is anybody aware of a firm doing/developing sound for this class?
TIA

MIght be worth waiting; Chris Leigh of Model Rai has commented on RMweb that future versions will have the overly prominent tooling joint on the rear of the bunker improved on,

The sound will be much like that of any small loco with Stephenson valve gear, surely there's a project already available for one of the several smaller GWR tanks with which these had much in common? (Standardised construction, standardised sound.)

I am scarcely less ignorant, not having much of a GWR interest! But this I do know, their inside cylinder 0-6-0 locos had Stephenson gear and slide valves, so you could just use the sound for 'THE PANNIER*', 57xx/8750, which must be available. (I have no idea what other sound projects might be available, and you never know, there may have been one produced specifically for this model, worth asking Model Rail.)

*The GWR finished up with more 0-6-0T's than either of the much larger LMS and LNER companies, and spectacularly at handover to BR that one class's numbers were nearly equivalent to all the 0-6-0Ts working on either of the LMS and LNER! And Swindon went on building 0-6-0T's to the effect that in 1961 the WR still had as many 0-6-0T's in service as the LMS and LNER had at nationalisation: most of which everywhere else in the BR regions had by 1961 been replaced by diesel shunters. Not one foot in the past, but both...
