I have found the ideal solution. A small layout. Does not take so long if the layout is small.

There has been major outages all over the U.K. for Talktalk customers. I have been suffering it the last week or so but have heard from other customers that they have been suffering the same fate for over 3 months.
9 hours to download a 8.6mb file. Just to put that in perspective.. that's 2 FLOPPY DISKS worth of data!
My email service basically will not load AT ALL.

Speaking with Talktalk, it transpires that they have not invested enough into their infrastructure and with people at home at the moment the system is clogged. Make of that what you will.

I just wanted to bring this to the fore as one possible reason why are there not so many new posts.

No particular problems for me. I'm using Sky who have the email with Yahoo.

I seriously think that the novelty of being in an on-line forum has past. As a moderator on here for quite
a few years it's noticeable that we get very few troublesome types nowadays. Some were knowledgeable
but had 'difficult personalities' others were just intent on stirring things up.

A) we are screening new members better than ever.
B) Troublesome types have gone elsewhere
C) The hobby is drifting back to the isolated modeller who hides in the shadows.

Even that forum associated to a magazine is nowhere near as lively as it used to be.

Segmentation too. I have no idea how many UK model railway forums now exist, but there is quite a selection judging from those that I have linked to at various times. Most of the newer ones are 'specialist' with a focus on a distinct segment of the hobby.

I think you hit on another factor there. Not bored in the office, but at home in the office and just getting the day's work done; rather than enjoying a little break with some hobby interest time.
