*Newbie help needed* Custom names and numbers

Postby spud1511 » Tue Oct 22, 2019 12:57 pm

Hi guys. Newbie here :!:

My apologies if this has been asked and answered already but I have had a look around before posting but couldnt find anything....

I'm looking for someone to customise a hornby king locomotive for me by adding/changing the name and numbers to give to my dad as a christmas present in memory of his father who passed away last month. I will have a go myself in the future but due to the sentiment behind it, I want this one done right and not my first time attempt!

The loco myself and my daughter have chosen is the early king with single chimney in gwr livery as they would have been when introduced as that was the year my grandad was born, as opposed to the later twin chimney as they were in the BR days.

Hopefully that makes sense and any advice or recommendations gratefully received!

Thanks,
Mark.

Hi, welcome to the forum! I’ve never had it done myself, but I’d have thought if you find a company that offers weathering of engines, they may well offer a renaming/numbering service too. A quick google search came up with this company, https://sawyermodels.co.uk/?page_id=13882

Or perhaps there’s a local railway modelling club near to you that may be interested in helping?

Hopefully someone with some personal experience will be able to come along and help you more.

This is a good site for finding nearby model shops, some of which will offer the service you are after.

The business which constantly advertises this service very prominently is TMC models on the North Yorkshire moors at Beck Hole. Presumably they have had plenty of practice in getting it right.

Thank you! That gives me a few more places to look. I'll post up an update when I decide where to go and some pics of the finished product :D
