In fairness to Rails-Vault,I`ve had a few bargains.I tend to look at Hornby Dublo or 12vDCTrix,items that i know i can repair or refinshed .I keep clear of obsolete items like Airfix or Mainline etc which are unrepairable owing to lack of spares.

What annoys me is that we never find out what is eventually paid for these items. Some of them turn up weeks later at a lower price but in the meantime it gives encouragement to the chancers to ask similar prices for tat. He has great trouble in describing modified or repainted stuff usually calling it kit built, I steer well clear!

Not tarnishing all with the same brush. I wouldn't use it as they messed me around with a refund for an item and had some dodgy bloke from Nigeria trying to buy an item I was selling offering me double the price!! Yeah right no thanks

Ah the old 419 scam. Some Nigerian tried that nonsense on me, offering £5000 for a £500 pc. Do they think we are that gullible.

There used to be a great thread on "scambaiters" where they scammed the scammer (from Nigeria) into meeting someone in Amsterdam outside a particular shop which just happened to have a webcam pointing out of its window. They also copied the local fraud squad in on the postings so he was busted live on the web.

The listing for that Dinky is hilarious. How about 'Would suit enthusiast with own glue' or 'Ideal addition to an O gauge scrapyard'? Most of these relatively plentiful/less sought-after later Dinkys are worth probably £20-£40 MIB, so the asking price is ridiculous. The same mentality that gave us Wrenn = mega bucks.

Anyone wealthy enough to spend this much on a 13A plug, is going to be too old to hear any difference it might make. At least they aren't trying to say it's needed for digital tuners. It seems pretty pointless as the weight of the cable pulling on the plug is going to ensure that the pins make a poor connection that wipes out any improvement the expensive plating makes.

That nonsense began near forty years ago, once CD 'democratised' obtaining decent replay of a recording. All the 'golden ears' with their endless tweaks to make analogue reproduction sound a bit better were suddenly stranded. Anyone with a CD player and some CD's with transfers of analogue recordings could potentially hear more of the original recording content if their amplification and speakers were good; than had ever been apparent from LP's on potter's wheels: despite unbelievably expensive moving coil cartridges and all the other obligatory audiophile gear. Item 1 (railway interest!), hear the tube trains moving under Kingsway Hall, from a time when concert recordings were made there. Totally unavailable from the LP's whatever sophisticated replay gear you used, 'mushed' in the RIAA bass boosting necessary for the LP to produce enough bass signal.

Before you knew it, gold plated everything on connectors, cable sexing, and all sorts of other nonsense to maintain their aura of expertise. The total aversion to participating in a proper 'double blind' test programme to determine if there was an objective difference, told me all I needed to know about their credibility. I still retain a few of the old mags with the more ridiculous stuff, kept as light entertainment.
