Re: Wanton Vandalism of layouts
This is shocking. I can never understand what they get out of it. Stealing stuff and selling it on to fund their drug habit or whatever. Yes I can understand that but mindless vandalism?
Of course these scumbags will no doubt have little scumbags of their own that are more than likely going to get the same parenting as their Fathers, if he stays around long enough to see them grow up.
SNIP, SNIP anybody.

Come on chaps, even RMweb are managing to stay vaguely civilised without the rather unattractive baying for blood.
There's a justgiving page set up for folk to show support, I'm sure despite money being only a small fraction of what was lost with all that kit/scratch built work, the folk affected would appreciate it far more than vulgar suggestions of how to punish the perpetrators. We have the police and the rule of law for that.

What an awful piece of wanton vandalism. Very sad piece of news.
Re: Wanton Vandalism of layouts
This is such sad news, I really hope they treat this with the seriousness it deserves & don’t just dismiss it as ‘toys’ the amount of time that goes into the layouts is such a large part of the value.
With the value of items ‘on site’ I had always assumed they had someone keeping an eye on things overnight - a local event we used to help with used to have the site guarded until early hours of the morning to prevent the ‘kids’ causing issues
It’s nice to see everyone coming together with the just giving page!

It's more a case of people on here venting their feelings of anger over this pointless act. As far as bad parenting goes, it could have been one saying that he's staying over at a friends house etc. Four toe rags lying over their whereabouts, mums and dads hoodwinked. The answer as to reasons why this sort of thing is happening so much nowadays is really complex, but I'd say that it has a lot to do with disciplinary actions being taken away from parents, teachers and even the police/courts. Having said that, I know what I'd do with the horrible specimens.flying scotsman123 wrote:Come on chaps, even RMweb are managing to stay vaguely civilised without the rather unattractive baying for blood.

Its ok to say there is no need for people to vent over things like this and I agree, having seen the courts deal with this kind of behaviour before and seen the courts give the perpetrators a slap on the wrist instead of an appropriate punishment I can understand why people are spitting chips. vandalism is the same as bullying its been going on for years but all of a sudden society seems to have rediscovered this behaviour, talk is cheap I think courts should garnish parents pay packets to pay for vandalism, as for the kids a couple of weeks in a local police holding cell fed cold pies, pasties and water may give them time to wake up to themselves but then the do gooders could never allow that.

Re: Wanton Vandalism of layouts
Apparently Rod Stewart has donated £10,000. 'It took me 23 years to build my layout, so I know how they feel,' he said.
And there I've been all these years, dismissing him as an overblown egotist with his brain between his legs. Just goes to show.

Must have totally devastating for the club, exhibitors and other stands to find all that wreckage.

Respect to Rod I say, while nothing will replace the hours of work lost hopefully the fund will let those who pst collections start to set up again.UrbanHermit wrote:Apparently Rod Stewart has donated £10,000. 'It took me 23 years to build my layout, so I know how they feel,' he said.

Must have been heartbreaking to discover the damage, given the substantial value of the damage hopefully sentencing will be suitably appropiate.

I knew about Rod Stewart's model railway but it's never attracted much publicity, I'm very glad to see that his generosity made it into a BBC report. Let's hope that the "low lifes" get a punishment that fits the crime. A couple of hundred hours apiece spreading ballast with just a shovel and barrow, might be a start.

Unfortunately that doesn't work either. A local volunteer run railway has recently ended its contract to have people carrying out their community service doing jobs for them as they were fed up of the wardens not keeping an eye on the offenders. The final straw came when they were supposed to spend the day moving bricks from a siding to the new platform, in wheelbarrows. They were instead found to be throwing the bricks at the wheelbarrows seeing who could knock it over. ruined all the wheelbarrows and smashed a lot of the bricks, which had been donated by a builders merchants. One of the wardens was found sat in the van as he couldn't be bothered to deal with it, so went to get away from it.
