Re: locos with smoke on ebay
The peizzo electric mist generator can produce copious quantities of mist but requires copious quantities of water. The transducers are all rather large and would be difficult to scale down. I've wondered if a piezzo earpiece if they are still available or microphone element if not might be adadpted, you'd also need an onboard ultrasonic source.

Hi
Very interesting experiments there TimberSurf I thought the industrial chimney was particularly effective. You mentioned that in your initial trail the atomizer got hot enough to melt the glue that you used. What sort of temperatures are being produced in the later ones. As a vaper I have found that some atomizers last for some time and others burn out quickly. A final question how much "juice" does your tank hold and how often do you need to refill ?

I dumbly used hot melt glue! lol (never twigged they get hot! Doh!) If you simply switch a vape on and leave it on, it will only take tens of seconds before it's too hot to touch (normally people only suck for a few seconds then it's able to cool for a few minutes). Using it continuously is a nono!Dublo wrote:Hi

I reduced the voltage, and have put it on an intermittent timer to reduce the ON time.
During testing with (apple vape), probably only a matter of 10-15 minutes total, I went through a 15ml bottle!
At some point in the future, I will mess with the basic ingredients (I have bought them all) and make my own mix. I dont have the figures/formula to hand, but it will work out at about a tenth of buying vape fluid, I will eventually use 1.6ml standard vape heads!

Timbersurf ..
Making your own vape liquid is so simple..
I still vape even been on them for 5 yrs after stopping smoking after 55 yrs but dont use nicotine just PG & a flavour.
I did try using the liquid in a A4 that was fitted with a Sleuthe unit but wasnt very good ..I found buying a 250ml bottle of genuine smoke oil was the best value.

Hi ,,,,I've got two of the Dapol Black Label locos and I use the oil made for them by Dapol,a special formula,,,ha ha ,,but they say it is a very light blend and therefore smokes really well ,it can be used with seuthe generators, you can buy it from Dapol only @ £6.99 50ml bottle ,,,you can get it in either Oderless or authentic smell ,,I must say that the smoke streaming across the loco and coaches as it running looks really good ,I've also noticed, after a while there is black dust like deposits on the roofs of the coaches ,,hope this helps ,,mjb

Not sure about cool running, but about 14 years ago my Nieves and nephews had a toy which emitted a fine smoke effect mist which really looked like smoke from a steam train. When I asked about it I was surprised to find it didnt use smoke oil but water to work. It lasted a few years. I've no idea what make it was so can't comment any more on it except that it was a battery operated train that went along the floor (Not on track) and it had to be made child friendly, so if there was no water it wouldn't do any harm.End2end wrote:Thanks for that link alex3410.
Copying from that site...
"Beware though, that prolonged use of a smoke generator could cause some warping, misshaping or melting of the plastic of your prized model!"
Elaborating on my previous question...
Has anyone made a COOL RUNNING smoke generator to overcome the heat?
Or has someone perhaps tried a different soloution like those vape pen things?
I do not know if they run cooler than the Seuthe units or not though?
Thanks

Re: locos with smoke on ebay
It would have used an ultrasonic transducer, probably the crystal from a piezoelectric headphone or microphone to create a cold mist and a small fan to blow it out. On a much larger scale we have a fake woodburning electric fire that uses the same method. The transducers are the same as are used to create the mist in vivariums for reptiles. I bought a couple of cheap ones, if I stand them in a bowl of water I can fill the kitchen with mist in about five minutes.
