Now who should get one of these for Christmas

Postby Bufferstop » Wed Dec 13, 2017 11:11 am

At the risk of setting myself up for a slew of dubious, outrageous or just darned expensive presents,
Who should get one of these for Christmas?

for the first gift I propose, one of these.

If you want to propose a gift for someone else, quirky, outrageous but please not mean insert a line that says

:? Oh dear. My letter to the fat man has already been sent.
I knew there was something I could have filled the last line on the page with.
There was a lot of modelling stuff though.
I've been a good boy. 8)

I find gadgets like this to be nice but a bit unnecessary. One can simply take ones tape recorder and fill the tape with background sounds and play them under the layout. Job done!

Using those sound cards, one per speaker, you get on 'singing birthday cards' I'm sure you one could mash up some quite effective for alot less than £165.

How many speakers can be wired into the sound card? Is there a limit? Do you need to buy a microphone to plug into it or do sound cards have microphones built in?

Thanks for the spell check Timbersurf, the odd thing is my spell checker doesn't spot it until I type it elsewhere. It's the gremlins, they've been licking the windscreens after I spray them with the stuff that's supposed to stop them icing overnight. Smells like cherry menthol.

As for slew I quote from Websters The noun slew, for instance, is from the Irish Gaelic sluagh, meaning "multitude."

As a thank you for the spell check I've ordered one of THESE for you.

Now where's that winsdcreen spray gone.

I like the idea of "muted" activity and background sounds but after a few circuits of the railway the repetitive nature would become boring very, very quickly. Perhaps there should be a sense of randomness in the sound triggering whereby the sound may or may not trigger when the reed switch is activated. I understand the need for the activity at the station when the train enters however, constantly repeating the sounds of nature is very repetitive.

How do you get the "These" to make a link to glasses. I think the lenses look quite magnified. But I dont wear glasses...
