I didn't understand where I was after clicking the link.
Then I realised I was in the TIPS / LINKS part.
Would it not be better to have the links as one of the top selections alongside HOME / LAYOUT / TIPS etc, so it can be clicked on directly rather than hidden in TIPS?
Great site though. I read lots. :)
Thanks

It is not worth it when it is only half a dozen, but once it is fully populated (over300) I may well move it to the main menu bar

Hello,
Its a great idea. Its something that i want to do eventually but so far have not got around to.
I don't comment on the look of web sites because i know the effort that goes into producing them. It is a personal choice, and a lot of hard work

Re: Lumsdonia Website Updates - the supplier list

Postby TimberSurf » Thu Dec 14, 2017 11:10 pm

Well the Links page is a bit hard to swallow, I have spent a lot of (wasted) time trying to get a database to work to no avail and have resigned myself to do it manually. This also means I need to do a lot of research for each supplier, to define what multiple categories each fit. So it is going to be a slow process, best attempted by bite sized chunks of one category at a time.
This is the list of categories I have so far:-
Accessories
Art
Backscene
Base Boards
Books
Brass Etched Models
Card kits
Clubs
Coach kits
Couplers n wheels
Display Cases
Electronics
Figures
General hobby supplies
General Model Railway
Information
Laser Cut Models
Lighting
Loco Kits
Loco Parts
Magazine/Video
Paints
Plastic Kits
Plastic Materials
Points
Ready made models
Rolling Stock
Scenery
Signals
Sound
Static grass
Tools
Track
Track Planning
Transfers
Turntables
Tutorial Video's
Wagon kits
Weathering

Happy to have discussion about what I have missed.
I might do a section at a time and take suggestions for ones I have missed that you guys know of, before moving on to the next.
Anyone willing to help?

Can't you do that by using Google search limited to site or desktop, I remember playing with it following some great announcement, or have they quietly dropped it. Creating databases by, effectively, writing your own indexes sounds to me like a really good reason to use someone else's code.

I realise that doing a search online will give most results, but sometimes it does not display obscure sites which don't have the right metatags. I just thought it would be good to categorize subjects, that way they can be browsed without a search and may give inspiration or a lead into a better search.
You cant search on a term you did not know existed!
So the website has been slightly modified to put the links in a more prominent position, and the page uploaded with the first few catagories
Please let me know what you think and shout out any errors and also any good links that I have missed that you know of! :P
