Photobucket 3rd Party Hosting

Postby luckymucklebackit » Fri Jun 30, 2017 11:08 am

Sounds like this side is making it very expensive to post on a forum, a lot of photographs have disappeared

To enable....
Plus 500 Plan: 500 GB of Storage and unlimited bandwidth for $399.99 / Year. The Plus 500 Plan allows for unlimited image linking and unlimited 3rd party image hosting.

Dig deep or transfer to Flickr looks like the answer

I have free dropbox 2GB or you can get Dropbox plus with 1Tb data for £10/Month and can share any pic as a link

Disgusting.
Another website filled with OUR content to make it as big as it is and then demanding payment.
It's internet highway robbery!

Time to find alternatives?
How about imageshack?
Thanks

That's a complete and utter pain in the arse! I don't mind switching to another host, but that's ruined a whole load of threads here now! :x

Not sure why your having issues with Photobucket? Unless you've reached your free storage limit?
I've had a PB account for more than 15 years and have no issues at all. Currently its 18% full and 28 pages of line drawings and pictures uploaded and all still viewable and downloadable to anywhere...

I lost loads of pictures and links into threads here when Imageshack went subscription only.
So no good, no current trouble with Photobucket.

My only problems with PB have been stupid, irritating adverts and slow processing from time to time. Otherwise OK. However, I've been worrying for a while that if it went for whatever reason, I'd lose a huge archive of photos. Is there any way in which I could transfer my PB library in one go onto an external hard-drive?

Why would you need the Plus 500 plan, unless you have a gazillion photos or videos to upload, or post vast numbers of images in various forums. I currently use the Plus 20 plan which gives 23gb of storage, and with over 2000 photos and about 70 video clips I'm only using 13% of my capacity. Admittedly, I'm not a prolific poster so this plan is adequate for my needs.

I'm still accepting the adds and have so far only used 30% of the free allocation. I only use PB for images I'm going to publish on here and I do the size reduction to 800pix wide before uploading which must make a big difference to the space required. All other storage I have in free accounts spread around plus my own server farm, various superannuated desktops with their own hard drives and others from their predecessors, they also provide anti-frost heating to the garden cabin :)

Hi Gents,

Just been made aware that my photos from the photobucket account no longer show. I've just been to their website & found this in their new t&c's

Free account : Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min. The free account does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting. If a free account Member exceeds their Content Limit, their account will be immediately suspended and they will need to become a “Paying Member” (defined below) in order to continue accessing their account. You can upgrade to a Plus account

At present I have the standard free account with them, if I understand the above correctly a free account does not support image linking into forum posts ?

Regards my storage limit I'm at 8%.

I've emailed photobucket support for clarification. Will let you know what they have to say, until then it looks like my posts now remain photo free, thank you photobucket for another poor man gets kicked.

Seems to be the same situation as me Mike, I'm well below 10%, but curiously others haven't suffered the same problem; flashbang posted on this thread, and perusing Geoff's wagon thread just now his haven't disappeared either?

Using this guide http://www.rainsberger.ca/2016/02/19/di ... image-tag/
to display a picture from my Google photos.

at the end of this impossible address I changed the width to "w800" (ignored the h value) and added "?.jpg"
A big pain compared to just copying the link from Photobucket though. I already have a paid account at Photobucket because I can't abide the advertising.

I'm baffled now. This is, apparently, 3rd party posting [ie from my Photobucker account to here]. It isn't supposed to be possible anymore but it still seems to be. Some have had their accounts locked for doing it. I thought that was one of the functions of PB.

Incidentally, its an unfinished white-metal kit of a gas wagon for refuelling gas-light tanks under Clerestory [and other] coaches.
