The issue I think lies in the younger generations not understanding what a kit or scratchbuilt is. I have also seen scratchbuilt in a title where a repaint was done. A nice repaint, but no scratchbuilding had taken place..

The problem is that Ebay only give you a couple of choices... So if you've done a full repaint and detail job on an RTR then strictly it should be S/H RTR but that would do it a dis-service! Also how far is it before a kit-bash becomes a scratchbuild? Even we modellers struggle on that one!

They could do with having several more categories, but then we'd get people who don't know anything about models not knowing what category something should be listed in...

The current set-up is the best of a bad job I think!

Most of what we call kitbashing is actually RTR bashing.

I'm not sure what the phrase is for modifying RTR but what I do is kitbashing, using kits, not RTR! ;)

See our old friend Mr G is getting hopeful again,
He'd be steep at half the price

He does serve one useful function, Mrs W sees his prices and thinks my spending is quite reasonable.

That is one of the rarer collectable ones, but the glory days for Wrenn are over now. Locos that fetched 4 figures can be had for less than £500 now, and rolling stock has been particularly hit. I picked up 4 boxed Wrenn wagons, (non of them rare) for 99p off ebay and that's not unusual. Nobody seems to want them any more. Loads and loads of sellers still think it is the glory days though, but they don't sell anything.

Heh, I agree with the original poster. 800 quid for a s**t coloured 9f with a face on it? Insane grandparents/parents are the new easy marks. *paints triang jinty blue and adds cardboard moonface* That's £300 in the paypal account :D

Fools and their money are easily parted. If a new batch is made most of the money will vanish. If I had a spare £800 I'd invest in a real collectable; first issue post war Hornby Dublo olive Southern tank loco are in that price range with no danger of them being reissued.

Of course I could invest it in something non railway in 1:1 scale and I probably would if I could get the parts.
In a world of fences and doors who needs windows and gates?

What really pees me off is I bought three Murdochs after I saw what happened to the price of Spencers (A4 with a face) I sold them in 2014 £150 each and thought I'd done well more than doubling my money. How I wished I'd hung on to them!!!!
