Rivarossi Big Boy Coupling

Postby Strummer » Tue Jun 22, 2021 12:41 am

Just got hold of a boxed Rivarossi Big Boy (4013) and the only thing wrong - other than a bit of busted handrail - is that the rear coupling on the tender is broken. As I'm an English Tri-ang type person, I'm not that familiar with these coupling types. Can anyone shed any light on what they are called/type/part number or possible replacement name, so I can attempt to search one out. I've attempted to add some pics but the camera didn't want to focus too well!

Looks old enough to have the long abandoned 'Hornhook' coupler.

The better question is what do you want to couple it to? It's very easy to fit a Kadee which actually looks like the real knuckle coupler and is fully functional, about the best thing in RTR couplers. (There's a non-functional representation 18 inches away inside the cow catcher which hinges out.)

Or a modern NEM fitting miniature tension lock will just slide in to the slot and can be fixed with a small self tapper.

Incidentally take a look for the two traction tyres...

Thank you for the info. As a tri-ang person I didn't know what to buy - now I do (I think).
