Rails website issue

Postby GWR_fan » Fri Oct 12, 2018 12:23 am

Last Sunday portions of Australia went to daylight saving time. Now with five days having elapsed and no issues entering the Rails website, the site is telling me this morning that my computer clock and date are incorrect. The website "clock" has my computer time as one hour ahead of what I have set my computer to, reflecting the actual daylight saving time. I have no idea what the website is doing.

I believe that it is actually Google refusing the connection to the Rails site rather than an issue with the site itself. I am wondering if any other downunderers are having similar issues.

Edit: now some hours later I am getting this response when trying to enter the website -

"This site can’t provide a secure connection

railsofsheffield.com uses an unsupported protocol."

Googled for Rails website, then accessed it from there and no problem.

Have you tried another browser such as Firefox or another search engine such as bing? I’ve found on a couple of sites recently (non railway) that google would not let me go in although my antivirus said it was a safe site!

Many thanks gentlemen, alas, I only use Google as a web browser. No loss if unable to enter the site as I cannot make sense of their search programme.
From memory about a year ago I had a similar issue with the site not providing a secure connection. It connected a few days later. Maybe the site has not renewed/updated their licencing.

Once again Google Chrome has locked me out of the Rails website. I get the following message -

"This site can’t provide a secure connection

railsofsheffield.com uses an unsupported protocol."

I do not get this with any other online model railway website. Does the site have a lesser level of online security or perhaps licences have expired?

I am on AEDST, and am experiencing no problems with the Rails site. I would go along with the suggestion to try another browser. Internet Explorer is still included in Windows, just not showing on the start menu of the latest versions; a quick search will reveal it.

With the error message in Chrome, try clicking on the 'Advanced' link. Sometimes that will allow you to click past the warning and blockage.

This is what the details state on the page -

"The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite. This is likely to be caused when the server needs RC4, which is no longer considered secure."

Odd that it is almost twelve months since the previous time that I reported it. In a few days the issue will clear - perhaps Rails will update its security licence.

When I shutdown Chrome there was a popup error message as to a vendor supplied DLL.

Just check the year on your computer. I get this message when I forget to do the year on my crappy old computer that has a flat backup battery.

There's no accounting for "luck" with different browsers.

My default browser is Mozilla Firefox and I have no problem getting the Rails site.

Yesterday and today however I could not get the Warley MRC site with Mozilla, but could get it on Internet Explorer!
