Peco points and Fleischmann track

Post by Mannick »

Hello Gentlemen,
can I use Peco points with the old Fleischmann Modell track without any issue (the famous 6020 curves) ? The Peco points are far better than the old Fleischmann points. Thanks for your help.

What's the height of the Fleischmann rail? If you want two sections of rail to connect using fishplates they need to be the same heights, code 100 is 0.1" tall, otherwise you may need to fasten the two ends down whilst holding them in alignment and provide some packing to keep the railheads level.

One option is to flatten half of code 100 rail joiner which will fit on the Peco rail and solder tack half of the appropriate rail joiner for the other rail on top of the flattened part.

Thanks for your inputs. I made a few measurements:
Fleischmann Modell track:
-rail: 2.8 mm
-rails and sleepers: 4.6 mm
Peco Setrack:
-rail: 2.5 mm
-rails and sleepers: 4.6 mm
But, when I use Peco or Fleischmann rail joiners, it doesn't work anymore ! So (as always) I'm a little bit lost...

You may be causing a "reverse loop" type of problem as you join the extra track on. A drawing or photo of you layout would be very handy to help determine if that is the case.

The very simple layout track plan (2' x 4'):

There may be a slight bump but trains should pass at low speed. Otherwise, you can use a file to take some material off the bottom of the Fleischmann rail until it's the same height as the Peco. Solder a peco rail joiner on to the Fleischmann rail, and then they should join smoothly.
