That does seem to be the way my mind is working at the moment.

The whole picture is what I'm not sure about yet but I do have some ideas of how I would like parts of the layout to be. Also by doing a board or two at a time I can bring them inside to do rather than be out in the cold! :)

So, it's pretty much 18 months since I ripped up all the track that I had laid.

However things are now moving forwards, I think!

I've come up with this plan for the station part. The 2 lines heading south continue round in a loop.

Is it worth moving the crossover points closer to the station? I'm just thinking about the practicalities of the run-around. Also, I think it's more typical to avoid facing points, so the crossover points on the far left of your diagram would be reversed.

In actual fact I had posted the wrong image and the points to the left are actually the other way around so things can come out of the top bay platform and join the correct line.

As for moving them closer in towards the station that’s not really and option due to space and the length of train I wish to run (engine and four carriages). Unfortunately it’s all had to be a bit of a compromise.
