Hornby A1/3 Decoder socket in Tender

Postby mikem64 » Tue May 01, 2018 5:34 pm

Hi Gents,

Here's a good one. I'm after a Hornby A1/3 where the dcc socket is housed in the tender & the motor inside the locomotive main body.

So far I'm aware of the following models which match what I'm looking for.

R2953, R2966, R3073, R3013, R3081, R3099, R3080, R3100, R3202, R3132, R3250

Just wondering if anyone else knows of other models that fit what I'm looking for.

Thank you
Mike

The first DCC ready ones were located in the Loco. It was around 2011-2 that they were moved to the tender. easy to tell, just look at the draw bar. If its a nest of miniature black wires, its tender located, if not its in the loco. I've nowt older than R3400, so I can't add to your list! sorry.

A quick check if you can see the actual loco is if it has a fixed drawbar and a 4-pin plug and socket then decoder goes in the tender but if it has the springy pronged detachable drawbar for power transmission then the socket if any is in the loco.

I would suggest pulling the service sheet but there are so many R-number variants (dozens) for A1/A3/FS you would need my (still in work) database but have a look at these for starters...

A1 - 131 204 220 259 315 316 366 406

A1/A3 - 284 380 388

A3 - 76 81 89 117 131 204 217 256 283

FS - 76 81 89 131 204 220 259 315
