H class (SECR etc)

Postby alex3410 » Mon Oct 30, 2017 4:41 pm

Hi, guys, I was just wondering if anyone has got hold of the new Hornby H class?

i preordered one from Hattons but apparently, they are still waiting to log the shipment into their systems before being able to dispatch them

would love to hear opinions / first impressions on it.

all i know is they are cropping up on ebay ~£150 mark - even from some model shops :!: £30 premium over RRP

really hoping Hattons dispatch soon as i don't think i will stop worrying about it until its here

If you preordered one then hopefully it will turn up. If you want a SECR livered one (which seems to the only one that has been released) I have it odds on being the first loco for the new Hornby Club as the Preserved 263. May be wrong but they are clearly showing the greyed out outline of a H in adverts for the Club. Its £40 or £80 pound for the Club membership - the higher priced one also brings 12 issues of Hornby Magazine and is not worth paying as the subscription to the Magazine is 12 issues plus the Yearbook for £37.99

Videos now on youtube. It looks like a small suburban tank loco with a very garish paint job, runs well enough, so that's probably a success for Hornby overall.

Just got a 'order picked' notice :D shows progress anyway

I spotted the Club loco outline recently and figured that's what they are up to, if I knew for sure I might consider the £40 club fee, but to be honest funds won't allow a second - especially with the club premium on top.

I know i will probably regret not getting a 2nd now if the ebay prices are anything to go by

mine arrived today, which has put my mind at rest!

first impressions are good, only criticism is the green looks a little dark but until I get it next to my C class I cant be sure (that's not to say the C class is perfect)

then it has to go up until Christmas :( - it's going to be a present for me

Especially as Hatton's have plenty in stock at £119 - http://www.hattons.co.uk/229854/Hornby_R3538_SECR_Class_H_Wainwright_0_4_4T_308_in_South_Eastern_and_Chatham_Railway_lined_gr/StockDetail.aspx

That’s new they had sold out of preorders months ago

I wonder if they are guaranteed a set amount that they can sell as pre orders & if there are extras they then sell them normally

Could be cancelled pre-orders, I suspect a number may have ordered the SECR intent of renumbering to the preserved loco and then got wind of the Hornby Club model most likely being exactly that; you also get people who seem to place pre-orders with more than one seller and then cancel one of them as soon as they get notice of the other being despatched. Read a thread on another forum where someone had enquired of their local model shop whether they had one only to be told they were all pre-sold. Later that day he got a telephone call from the shop saying they had one, multiply the quantity that shop bought to what Hattons bought and the fact they have a number available is not that surprising.

Thats a fair point, i did something similar with the rereleased Bachmann c class in the reduced SECR livery - after the price jumps of the original I wanted to make sure I got one

the only issue was I ended up with 3 of them

managed to sell on the other two & learnt my lesson

I've noticed that Hattons are keen to point out that it can be cancelled later, when you place a pre-order. Presumably the number a shop will be allocated is based on pre-orders plus some. So you are doing them a favour by pre-ordering.

Hornby have also just posted a clip on the Facebook page stating Warley Announcement, it is believed that its the preserved H-Class 263, just to annoy a few, either that or its the Q Class pulling it out of the shed... but its been rumoured that it will be 263 as it was supposed to be part of the revamped Hornby collectors club, anyway we will see.
