Everyone has to start somewhere. You will get a neater jog if you have your insulated wire flat on the board and bend the last bit of the bare wire up to the side of the rail. In time you will probably find you want the wire to disappear straight under your board:

my soldering its not fantastic so i normally opt for pre soldered fish plates.

either way they will be far easier to hide and look much better then the power clip!

Nice job for a first go.

Would look much better if you solder to the underside of the rails. You may have to cut some plastic away to make a clear space between the sleepers. If you do each rail between different pairs of sleepers the sleeper spacing can be maintained stopping it from closing up. On flexi track there are staggered breaks in the plastic base which are ideal
