Can anyone tell me what class this is??

Postby kiwitram » Wed Apr 06, 2011 5:45 pm

Hi everyone on my daily eBay browse (because yes, I REALLY am that dull) I came across this- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HORNBY-OO-GAUGE-6000-LOCOMOTIVE-BODY-TENDER-TOP-/150583749980?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item230f7dad5c

It got me thinking- 'what chassis would I need to restore this?' but the item description doesn't give a hint of help at all.

Can you lot help??

Thanks, Kay :D

6000 was put in the item title, but other than that, no indicators, I'm afraid.

Yeap thats the Lima model of the ex-GWR King George V.

The item is very common on ebay you could prob pick up a working locomotive for around £20

Hornby LNER locos- colour panic!

Postby kiwitram » Wed Apr 06, 2011 11:14 pm

Also, just out of curiosity, which LNER loco classes such as the b12, A3 and A4 were repainted into that BR express blue colour?? I'm only asking as I'd like to get a D49 or a B17 and possibly repaint them into that sort of blue.

Thanks again, Kay :D

Sorry mate, that's not 6000 King George V.
It's 6009 King Charles II (mfd 1978).

L205104 #6009 King Charles II BR Blue

I dont know if it's Lima but I'm pretty certain it's king George v as it's number 6000 (the information the lister knows) plus it looks to have the golden bell on the front which is unique to that locomotive.

But I might be wrong

Didn't notice the bell at the front of the smokebox.

Ok, not Lima,

The photo shows the tender pick up below the cab, so it must be this one;
Hornby R737 6000 King George V BR Blue, bell on front (mfd 1996-97)

NOT an expert, but post-1948 to at least 1950 the INTENTION was that the new standard, all region, colours were "blue for the largest and most powerful types" and "dark green (for) second-line express engines" (O.S. Nock). Thus for ex-LMS, Coronations were blue and Royal Scots green. On that basis I doubt B17s would have been "blue" (rated 5P4F) and am pretty sure that D49s (rated 4P) would not have been.
