I was bored ! So..................

I was bored so i decided to chop up my little Dapol Railbus and a couple of old MkII coaches , this is what i devised. I'm going to get Lima class 117 chassis's and modify them to fit. As it is a non existant train i've decided it will be painted in the old Kelvin Scottish bus livery of yellow, light blue and a dark blue stripe. This is purely because i would have loved to have seen DMU's in that livery when i was younger.

Always nice to see a modeller that uses his/her imagination instead of being content with what come out of a box keep up the good work and would like to see the finished product.

Get them finished in that Kelvin livery, run them on a show layout, and wait for the puzzled comments. You may even gets some 'expert' telling others that he thinks that's the proposed class 169 or whatever, that didn't get built...

Love the Pacer, i was tempted to modify some MkI coaches into some Class 107's in the same livery.

.. That's pretty good, I like that. To be honest it has a kind of "trans pennine" DMU look about it like the old Trix/Lilliput/Dapol one. You have created a proper "neverwazza" though and it looks pretty convincing.

Thanks Metadyneman, I've decided to go the whole hog on this 1. It's going to have directional and interior lighting, passengers and flushglazing if i can get it .
I just love to build things when they come into my mind though this 1 shouldn't cost me too much to do. I'm using Railmatch paints and going to use Warning yellow and Rail blue ( for the dark blue ), but unsure if they do a colour that will closely match the light blue i need.

Well good luck with your project it will be nice to see it when you have completed it. I once tried to make a class 455 EMU using Hornby "shortie" Mark 3 coaches. I got as far as hacking the roof about at one end to make it look convincing but got stuck with the windows and double doors. Needless to say the whole lot ended up in the bin!

I might treat myself to a Bratchell kit one day but it's having the time to make kits which i don't have... I was fine in my teens 20 & 30s at making stuff but as I approach 50 I've become much more of a train "runner" than a "maker". Good to see your imaginitive project though keep up the good work.

Primed today to start painting tomorrow. I've added another car to it which was a damaged Lima MkII . Cant wait to get it painted.

Here's a preview of the livery. I've still got to tidy up the angled lines a little, paint the roof and devise away of putting "Kelvin Scottish" on the side.
If anyone has any ideas i'm struggling to think of a TOPS number to give this DMU. The window frames have yet to be painted silver and i've still to give another coat of light blue. I'm replacing the old headcode with a unit that will house a single headlight ( which will have a white LED ). I'm going to use yellow and red for the normal headlights.

As soon as i put the black around the cab windows i thought EMU, I may be tempted to cut the roof and fit a pantograph .
It reminded me of the old 303's (Strathclyde Transport) i travelled on when i was younger.

Very similar, I agree. It's the distinctive wrap around windows that struck me as the ER emu though, even when you had an all yellow frontage. Go Eastern and electric, you know it makes sense!
