Re: Bachmann tension lock couplings

...Mine are actuated by a strip of phosphor bronze nailed on the baseboard frame, pushed into contact with a brass drawing pin. Never yet had to make an electromagnet for this purpose, salvaged them from tweeters and solenoids various. (I am cheap, oh yes...) Well if you're cheap, that makes two of...

Re: Bachmann tension lock couplings

Cheers Bigmet. Hmmmm ... maybe it's time for a few experiments. Whenever I've thought about it before, I've never got past realising that, for me at least, it'd need electro-magnets rather than permanent ones. Making those would probably be cheaper than buying them (if indeed such things are readily...

Re: Bachmann tension lock couplings

Well this is all jolly interesting, and the postie's just delivered my two packs of couplings viz. one each 36-030 and 36-061, these being with and without pocket respectively. What's the verdict on that mod, the name of which I can never remember, which involves more staple fun, but this time by wa...

Re: Bachmann tension lock couplings

Thanks Geoff. The longer I'm in this game, the easier it's getting to see why folks go to Kadees!

Bachmann tension lock couplings

I'm slowly getting round to sorting out some kind of coupling standardisation (or as good as), aiming to eventually have all Bachmann narrow tension-locks. It's finally dawned on me that the Hornby small tension locks have longer hooks than the Bachmann ones (why, for crying out loud?), and also tha...

Re: Southern Railway tender loco question

That does indeed look nice, but at present I'm leaning towards another N class. I'd like a nice new C class, but I can't really justify over £100 for a loco :(

Re: Southern Railway tender loco question

Cheers SR man. Am I right in assuming that the S15's a decent runner but perhaps not in the same league as the 700? And was the 700 available in SR "olive"? I don't think I've seen it in anything other than BR black!

Southern Railway tender loco question

It's occurred to me that when I'm running my railway in Southern mode, I could do with another tender loco. The only one I have at present is a very nice N Class (running number 1824) which I got secondhand and which has always impressed with its running qualities, especially its haulage capability....

Re: Southern Railway carriage question

Thanks yet again, gents. I hardly dare say it, but I'm off now to ask a question about Southern locos ...

Re: Southern Railway carriage question

Thank you once again gentlemen. This whole SR carriages lark has always been a mystery to me, but I do believe that I'm finally managing to start to make some sense of it. Anyhow, I've now realised that the Maunsell 6 compartment brake which I'd forgotten I've acquired isn't R4231 at all, it''s R430...

Re: Southern Railway carriage question

Right, it's all changed. I've finally realised that the way forward for me is to try and put together a 5 or 6 coach train in "olive" green, starting with the R4231 Maunsell 6 compartment brake third which I alread have. But I'm out of my comfort zone here, so what 4 other coaches would ma...
