Re: Is it Possible to rewheel an old Triang class 08?
It is possible. One time honoured method: Markits still produce the 'Romford' pattern wheelsets, axles, (and bushes if required) to rewheel older mechanisms. http://www.markits.com/ However, import into the EU is proving difficult for what is a small business, as their site explains. If you have fam...

Re: Seaton Junction
... I did make a new loco tender drawbar for it though as I found the stock one wouldn’t go round my curves on its tightest setting. Anyone would have thought that by now Hornby would have looked at a Bachmann tender loco model introduced between about 2009 and 2020 with a neat screw locked slide c...

Re: Controller question.
To expand a little on Flashbang's reply, DCC is usually operated wtih one interface (usually a handset, alternatively a console) per operator. One handset will simultaneously operate as many locos as you can mentally keep up with; the most I have attempted is eight locos all running independently wi...

...plus natural light at last... Just remember to park any stock out of the sunlight - unless a realisitic faded paintwork appearance is what you are looking for. (This natural fading works particularly well on the various brown and bauxite shades used on fitted wagons in my experience.) In one con...

Re: Troublesome Jinty/ J83 chassis
Good leads suggested to check out, I'd add another, a 'dry' soldered joint in the circuit.

Re: Have Hornby Abandoned Railroad
I suspect the main difficulty will be the shortage of production slots. What to manufacture; a run of low cost 'Railroad' or a high mark up premium product which sells out very quickly? ... If Hornby have any rights to use the name they might have done better as Triang Classics... Or 'Hornby Classic...

Re: Accurascal Class 55
The problem with this compromise is that often deformations creep into the model, leading to problems for those wanting to fit scale diameter wheels for the more accurate appearance. I will wait and see on Accuracale's announced EE type 3. If that has scale bogies - the same design as used under the...

Re: 1950's Triang
At some point the situation must have arisen that the current production wheels would not run reliably on some existing track, or was the running reliability of Triang's wheels so bad that no one noticed... It was poor, and the same applied to the major competitor, H-D, in my experience. Steam loco...

Re: While Waiting For The P-Way To Get Their Fingers Out...
Handsome! I expect the late and lamented Adrian would have been pleased to know that a kit was being constructed by someone that knew them well by experience in service and prepared to get it right. He was a very demanding character and wouldn't settle for second best. Not many know this, but among ...

Re: 1950's Triang
Caution regarding the 'back to back gauge'. For current OO wheels this will be 14.5mm. But the old Triang wheels were around 13.5mm b-t-b, because the flange is much thicker. 'Around', because the plastic wheels of wagons and coaches had one wheel free on the axle so it could move a little side to s...

Seen many good layouts on my big screen, watch it through the operating sequence once and I am done. Whereas the same good layout in reality will keep me happy operating it 'forever'.

Re: While Waiting For The P-Way To Get Their Fingers Out...
...My observations ... are based on experience as a guard... One slow speed ride in a goods brake van on a preservation line had me wondering how on earth the railway persuaded rational chaps to ride about in them to earn a living. How easily could older bogie coaches have been repurposed into brak...

Many possibilities, as it's 'scenery that moves'. The background from dawn to dusk, airport operation in the distance, ships moving on and off a dock, great smoking steelworks <substitute industry of choice> passengers arriving on a platform, train pulls in front and on departure there are the disem...

Re: Accurascale Class 55
The pins can be tight, and not being able to grip the sides of the PCB won't help. For removal, what I would do is carefully lever up very slightly from each side at the end of the pin row, alternating a little movement one side, then the other. Patience is everything, you don't want to bend the pin...
