Re: Montfort's shunting layout

Any old wagon kits lying about? Build a wall beyond the end of the tracks and glue the cut off buffer beam form an old kit

Re: Montfort's shunting layout

If all the wagons are the same type, the suggestion is to get the small adhesive coloured dots and stick them on, something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dot-Stickers-Self-Adhesive-Sticky-Marking/dp/B071RCSQ7V/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1536413290&sr=8-5&keywords=coloured+sticker+dots Y...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

Back from my travels and got stuck in last night, it was out with the paintbrush and painting the sides of the rails. I am going back to the method I used on a previous layout and have given the rails a coat of red oxide primer first, this will then be painted a rusty brown later on, it is a bit ted...

Continuing the foreign theme.

Just back from Finland, where I snapped this old beauty at Karis.

Any other foreign steam locos?

Re: Backscenes.

I have a mix of Brian Sherriff, Peco and some created from photographs, and you cannot beat the local photographs. I was fortunate in that I was able to get appropriate ones form some Websites about Glasgow in the 1960s, and some up-to-date ones of Edinburgh, but since the views have hardly changed ...

Looking good Alex, can't remember ever having that number of brand new points at once, everything I had was built up from small batches (and a lot of second hand) :D

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

As seems to be the norm just now, progress is very slow, but I did get up to the loft last night for a couple of hours, this resulted the electrics being completed and the plank tested, all seems to be working as expected. I boxed in the uncoupler levers so that they look a little less heath robinso...

On first impressions I would go with "B" - it has a nice flow about it.

Re: Setting up a new layout

Hi - It will depend on how much direct sunlight reaches the layout. I recently dismantled a display layout that sat in the foyer of a care home for about five years and there was considerable fading to the card buildings that received the direct sunlight, however that was a fairly severe example. If...

Re: Returning to the hobby and looking for suggestions.

Agree with Mountain on that configuration, couple of things to check before proceeding is make sure the garage is wind and watertight, is it going to be shared with a car? If so think about the consequences of introducing a hot wet car into a garage where a layout is set up and if the weather will g...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

Hi Burnie - thanks for your comment - big enough, well yes, high enough, definitely not. Not a lot of work being done as I am back in travelling mode, next week I can tick off rail travel in yet another country, as I am due to take the train from Helsinki Airport to Turku in Finland.

Keep up the good work
